New person needs help cleaning!
 

Just bought my first boat (a used whaler) a couple of months ago. Well, I made the mistake of not putting a good coat of wax on the hull and got some yellow staining...I used several products before finally getting it clean with On/Off! Powerful stuff!

I am still cleaning it up before I wax it and
need help with a couple of other things:

1. I still have some black streaks on the bottom of the boat that I have used
3M Black Streak cleaner on, but still can't quite get it all off. (note: I replaced the black rubber rollers!!!!) Any suggestions?

2. What is a good cleaner for the deck of the boat, especially the non-skid surface? I read where someone said to use On/Off in this area also...but I would be afraid of getting it on things or it washing back to the back of the boat?

3. After cleaning the interior/deck...do you also wax the interior, including the non-skid surfaces? How do you protect these areas?

I am new to all this and really appreciate any help.

I used on/off as well but keep it away from anything but fibreglass. For the non skid areas try softscrub w/bleach. Be careful with smoothe areas because it is a mild abrasive

For just a yellow stain 1cup on/off to 2 gallons of water. On/off full strength will take barnacles off the bottom of the boat.

Many people have been having good luck with the Frenzy product. Some have also been happy with some of the teflon cleaners.

This month's Powerboat Magazine tried three products for the non-skid and all worked well:

Cleaner:
Meguiar's Non-Skid Deck and Hull cleaner
Bio-Kleen Oxidation Remover
Aurora Boat Clean

Protectants:
Woody Wax - spray
Aurora Marine Sure Step

Yes it will. That is why I love to use it at the end of the season to get all the grime and stuff off the hull. Looks brand new every time. As far as the black stains, rubbing compound with a mechanical buffer will take them off. Just be careful not to burn the fiberglass. I also use the Frenzy products and they also work very well. You can use the wax to coat any and all fiberglass surfaces to include the interior. Also, the wax will lift stains in the vinyl but you still need to use a good vinyl treatment which they also sell. For the whole boat use 3M Marine High Gel-coat compound.
On the nonskid use it with a scrub brush.
Do not git on off on any fabric it will put a whole in it.

Waxing Frenzy! will remove the black streaks from the trailer rollers. I highly recommend waxing the interior, but not the non-skid (kind of defeats the purpose). We have a Super Degreaser that is 100% biodegradable that will clean virtually anything, including the non-skid.
