Inside that place you would never know you were in Asbury.
Besides, just being in there makes you feel like you're "in" the "Family"
The Godfather should know of this place....
Excellent food too!

I went to high school in Pennsylvania in the 1970's. Springsteen was the biggest name around there. I remember the Greetings from Asbury Park album. Was the city already run down then? Was Bruce singing about old times then? The buildings still look good. Makes me want to move there and renovate something. Thanks for the pictures.

Actually the city was still looking good in the early 80's. As time went on, things started to go down hill from there....

Sharkey:
Since I was raised in Queens and Long Island, I can't relate to Asbury as much as you do, but I can compare it to Coney Island, which aside from extravagant Housing Projects, has a similar look to it in a lot of ways.
Your pictures are quite poignant and I congratulate you....maybe it's some form of therapy for the recent events.
My only negative thought (I wouldn't be me without one...eh?) is the reference to Brucee, Jon Bongiovi, etc and that club they started in. Based on their recent political shenanigans, naive posturing, and disengenuous tree hugging while flying in fuel guzzling private jets.... I think the club should be renamed in their honor....... "The Stoned Phonies".
Thank you and I enjoyed your tour down memory lane, but always remember....you can't go home again.

Sharkey,
The last picture in post #25, I was looking at it a few days ago. How the hell did they get approval to put that thing on the beach, literally ?
Did people forget that there was no sand back there about 5-8 years ago. The army corps of engineers have been pumping sand on the beaches since 95'. If the gov't ever stops the funding for the replenishment project it will only take a few years for the sand to go bye bye....
I can't wait for the next hurricane or nor-easter. That thing will be gone for sure!!

Panther,
My guess is that is where the original pier was. They probably stayed within the original foot print perhaps? God knows that was washed away in the sand like foot prints normally do......

Sharkey....Asbury Park needs a bomb, then some bulldozers. You mentioned the strip. I came in on the twilight of the strip, 69 Camaros, Cudas, Boss Mustangs...racing from light to light. It was brief for me because I saw the end. I am 50 years old, and I have never heard the phrase "The Strip" for 30 years. You old bastard.
