Dumb Question about boat trailers???????
Why the hell did some trailer companys make them using steel BOX tubing??? Do they not see it holding water inside the frame after a boat is launched then rusting out in a few years?

Re: Dumb Question about boat trailers???????
Box tubing is more rigid per pound than open frame designs.

Re: Dumb Question about boat trailers???????
It also looks better and is lighter.

Re: Dumb Question about boat trailers???????
My trailer has holes drilled in it to allow the water a way to escape.

Skater fills their trailers with argon and pressurizes it.

Too late on mine. Rust has made it own holes. I called the local steel shop and apparently 2x5 11 gauge box isn't very popular. My other boat trailer is much older and made of channel steel. Keep paint on it and it will last forever. But it makes sense of what Reed said. It would be a heavy as5 trailer for bigger boats. |
