Re: urgent need advice
Check the coast guard web site. You may be ok depending on the tidal surge.
There are coast guard organized flotillas to get boats inland and tied with long lines across canals or inland lakes. THese facilitate the tidal rise above normal. this one seems to be small and you may be fine where you are. Tie loose lines in case the tidal rise is higher than your lift. Use a line at each cleat leaving plenty of slack. You wouldnt want the boat to be so secure to the lift it holds it under water. |

Re: urgent need advice
Not sure of the procedure of leaving it in the water???
Do you have a trailer?? If so, I am sure someone here close to you would be willing to tow it to safety for you, if they dont, I Will!!! |

I Live In South Florida All My Life So I Survived "andrew" The Best Advise I Can Give Ya Is Put It On A Trailer And Store It In A Dry Storage Place. A Warehouse Would Be The Best. It's Not Worth Taking The Risk Good Luck

Re: urgent need advice
Jason,
Get that boat off your lift! You have to move it. It's not unusual for storm tidal surges to reach 5 or more feet depending on the strength of the hurricane. |
Re: urgent need advice
Trailer and in door storage is best. If you have to leave it on the lift, tie it down and raised the lift as high as you can get it. Check your insurance policy!!!! My Pathfinder is staying on the lift with rachet tie downs and raised to it's max. Baja is on a trailer at a lot I own off the water. The Extreme is staying indoors down at the shop. Dave Warden

Re: urgent need advice
Jason, if you can't get it out of the water put er up as high as you can. Tie it to the lift and cross tie the lift to the pilings to keep it from swinging.

Re: urgent need advice
I dont know what the tide surge is in your area, but I'm about 15 miles up river from you so it will be safer then you close to the gulf. My boat is on the trailer and you are welcome to keep yours on my lift. I also have an extra trailer if you want to get it out of the water. Run your boat up here and I'll meet you at the ramp. If the storm looks like its gonna hit us I'm towing mine up to Ocala to a friends house tommorow night.

Re: urgent need advice
does your insurance pay-out surpass your enjoyment level? no, never mind, you'll drive my insurance up too, pull it.

Re: urgent need advice
Get it on a trailer. If you don't have a truck, beg borrow or rent one.

Just saw this thread, albeit a little late. During Isabel last September, my boat was on the lift. I had no trailer or truck available.
What saved the boat during the Chesapeake tidal surge was a full boat cover with Gortex stitching, 12 bungee cords and stainless steel hooks. Boat floated 2'-3' above the lift during the storm (only 60MPH winds max) and pulled it back down onto the lift when the water receded. All others in the marina sustained major damage, mostly from coming down off angle to the lift. In case the bungees failed, I had tied 6 lines to the boat (x-cross and springs) to keep it from floating away. I believe the final estimate was an 8' tidal surge in Baltimore. Without a full cover, I suppose you could still use the bungees as a backup by attaching them to the cleats, but not tight to allow full stretch. The downside is the boat will "sink" on the lift if they stretch to the max and don't break off. I hope you made out okay. |
