I've had some good people come through for me in similar situations.
How many times have you tried to compensate some good-doer that saves you're azz, and they won't accept?
Many times for me, gives me renewed faith in mankind.

This only took about a half hour and by now its 5pm so we had some dinner at the marina. Oh yeah , it finally stopped raining. That's the Throgs Neck Bridge in the backround for you New Yorkers who might recognize it

OK , so now it's 6 pm and we're still 6 hours from our destination and 2 hours from home. The front axle I was running on and bottomed out looks slightly bent too. So screw it......head home. Back on the cross Bronx...across the GW bridge...hop on the turnpike to this

All he asked for was a ride for his kids if we see him next year. There are good people everywhere.
