NH ..Union leader Not Objective!!!
Read this Local crap!~ :blaster:
http://www.theunionleader.com/articl...?article=42520 Define Big Boat!! :hothead: |
Re: NH ..Union leader Not Objective!!!
That paper is actually very good and conservative.
That sap is another "since I can't get one no one should have bigger than what i can afford" syndrome... they' re all over. The guy might be an advertiser to the paper or they are catering to the masses again to make people feel good. |
Re: NH ..Union leader Not Objective!!!
Show me one major boating area that is not less crowded during the week than it is on the weekend. The sail boaters on winnipesaukee.com must be having a field day with this by now.

Re: NH ..Union leader Not Objective!!!
So, right up front, no offense intended toward any cruiser owners on the board, but...
That's TOTAL BS!!! It's not the "big, fast boats" that are the problem, it's the A-HOLES that buy the big cruisers and drive around at 10-20 mph that are the problem!! Do we need to have a bunch of "floating cottages" on the lake, cruising around at "the biggest wake I can possibly leave behind" speed, thus - by the time it gets to you, your boat or god-forbid your boat at your dock, hang on!! I sit and watch Cigs, Fountains, Formulas, etc go by every weekend, they are courteous and leave the smallest of wakes behind. Then along comes "you scratched my anchor" boat owner, plowing through with no regard for anyone smaller then he is, and sending everyone off his wake skyward!! So, I think that we need to contact Roger Amsden - the yahoo at the Union Leader that wrote the article and tell them they need to do a bit more research!! I know we are all sick of the "performance boaters" getting the bad rap, and in this case, I don't know how they can say a 41 Regal cruiser - HELLLOOO!?!?! is fine but a "fast boat" is not... :hothead: Pisses me off to no end...!!! |
Re: NH ..Union leader Not Objective!!!
(DTM)Thank You I was waiting for you to chime in... My Feelings exactly!!!!
|
Re: NH ..Union leader Not Objective!!!
Most problems on the lake are caused by runabouts that run 55+. They dont acknowledge right of way and never look before they turn. It drives me nuts.
In most cases, the performance boaters here on winni have more knowledge than anyone else on the lake. |
Re: NH ..Union leader Not Objective!!!
BI~
In all seriousness, I am going to send a note to the joker that wrote that article and "call him" on it. I just don't see how he can not only offer that info, but use an owner of a 41 CRUISER to substantiate it!?!?! Is he for real!?!? Better yet, the guy that owns the 41' Regal is saying - and I quote, (Paul and Shelley Polewarczyk of Sterling, Mass., get ready to head out onto Lake Winnipesaukee in their 41-foot cruiser). He said "he has noticed a lot of faster and bigger boats in the eight years he’s been on the lake." How about this PAAAAAUL... have you noticed all the additional floating CONDOS on the lake!? I suppose you think they are ok, but those guys in the "go fast" boats are reckless and an endangerment to all that is good on that lake!? Once again, let's pick on the performance boats... what a crock! (Good thing I don't have a blood pressure test scheduled for today!) :D CowIsl ~ Do you by any chance have a place on the island? We have friends out there in a couple of different spots, (one on the "town" side and one on the Idlewilde side) and we are out there all the time, great place! |
Re: NH ..Union leader Not Objective!!!
DTM
we are on the idlewild side facing sandy island. Its a great place. Who do you know on the idlewild side? |
Re: NH ..Union leader Not Objective!!!
DTM .Just went over to Winnilakers.com and I had posted the same thing this morning they want to fire off a rebuttal.. It had my Irish up for most of the day !! between the union leader and the Marine Patrol don't know which is worse!

Re: NH ..Union leader Not Objective!!!
BI~
Here you go, I sent this letter to the editor earlier this afternoon... and yes, I signed it too!! :D Dear Ed.~ I am appalled at the article I just read on "big boats cause concern..." in todays paper. As someone who has been "summering" on the big lake since I was 10 mo. old, as well as our family being long time water-front property owners I have to say that the contents of this article are not only inaccurate but unfairly biased against the "performance boater". The problem and concern do NOT lie within the big, go-fast boats so much as with the big power-cruiser boat owner. Speed is - and should be - less of a concern for the overall health and welfare of the lake, where as boaters like Paul and Shelly who own a 41 foot Regal "cruiser" pose the greatest concern. A cruiser that size will and does leave behind a wake that could swamp most boats under 20', not to mention the resulting possible damage from that wake to boats tied to a dock near by. How is it that Roger Amsden can write this article and use people like Paul & Shelly as an example of the "good" or "right" boater on the lake, and not do real research to find / see the bigger problem. I think that Roger needs to not only spend some actual time on the lake, but he also needs to spend some time sitting on a few docks and watching what happens as these cruisers pass by. The "bigger, faster" boats are - as a large majority - a well skilled courteous group, the cruiser set... I can't say the same for. Watch what happens when a 35' + cruiser goes by at 15-25mph, (their typical cruise speed) and witness the size of the wake left behind. Now watch the 35' + "go fast" boat go by at their cruise speed, (typically 35-45 mph), and see the wake they leave behind. I will promise you that every time, the cruiser poses a much greater danger and hazard with it's wake than the performance boat does!! Additionally, the cruiser requires much more space to pass a given area / boater as it is considerably wider than your "fast boat" is. Not to mention it takes much less effort and time to redirect a performance boat - in the event of an emergency - than it does a 10 ton cruiser!! Everyone likes to pick on the performance boater, I can't tell you how many times I have run down to the dock to fend off my boat from getting bounced around because a big, floating condo just came cruising by and left me a giant wake to deal with. If you are going to publish / write an article, have your people look at ALL the facts and issues that are involved with the subject at hand, and not skew the material unfairly in one direction. Not all performance boaters are saints, I know. But as a majority they are a courteous and HIGHLY skilled set, and their craft poses much less of a real problem than you have eluded to! Conversely, not all cruiser owners are bad, but just by the design alone of that type of boat, they have no way to avoid the wakes they leave behind. They can be skilled as an owner / driver but that does not change the design of the boat, and the resulting wake. Roger may think that the "80 mph boat" belongs offshore because it is called an "offshore" boat, but I disagree! Show me where or why a 41' - or larger - cruiser deserves a happy home on the lake and the performance boat does not!! Get your facts straight and publish an article that is accurate and unbiased, otherwise don't waste the ink and keep this propaganda from circulating! Could you tell I was a bit torqued up when I wrote that!?!? :) |

He is going for DB test # 3 sunday W/lawyer in tow and when he passes I going to Put Marine Patrol in there place! He also grew up on the lake and owns property... ant cant take it any more.. There are a lot of contributing factors to the lake problems and Go fast boats are not the common denominator! I think some one needs to tell fays that and unless Im wrong the other two guys slip at silver sands (they:stupid: have more go fasts on the lake than anyone) nothing like throwing stones when your in the glass house ! Ill look for that in the Union Rag! :blaster: We also called the union leader to give them a heads up on My ICBM Buddy's story lets see if they publish that! Bob |
Re: NH ..Union leader Not Objective!!!
Personally , I'm for banning sail boats. Did you ever hear them on a breezy night in a marina?? clank , clank , clank , clank , clank....it's enough to drive you bonkers
Lets hear it. |
Re: NH ..Union leader Not Objective!!!
I just got a reply from the Union Leader Editor, and it reads:
Hi...good letter, except we need it to be trimmed to approximately 200 words plus we need your complete address and telephone number. Thanks, Greg Andruskevich, letters editor Hmmm, ok so I'll give him my address and phone #. As for the 200 words, any suggestions!? :D :D |
Re: NH ..Union leader Not Objective!!!
There some seriously intellectually challenged people on that winni website...

Re: NH ..Union leader Not Objective!!!
Nick~
You have nooooooooooooo idea!!! Those folks are just morons! Plain and simple, almost frightening. There is a guy on there that goes by "Skip", kind of the Winni boards version of Troutly - (he's in law enforcement), (of course Trout almost always has value to add here :D ) but this guy just thinks that his word is gospel and nothing else matters... ok, so he is really like Troutly!! :p {Just kidding bud ;} ) People here think we are hard on the newbies, those guys gang up on the newbies over there and if your not a tree-hugger conservative all is well in a kayak and eat wheat grass nature lover, don't waste your time. CMG~ Nice idea, I'm taking notes here in order to make the most of my 200 words, keep 'em coming. Thanks. |
Re: NH ..Union leader Not Objective!!!
It's crazy, I read a few threads on there and the mentality of these people is insane. Just because they show up on the lake or maybe have a plot on the lake, they seem to believe that only their form of boating is acceptible. I couldn't believe the thread on the poker run. wtf?
|
Re: NH ..Union leader Not Objective!!!
lol, yeah that poker run thread was a doozy, huh!? I bet if they had canoe races, you'd see all kinds of good press!! :p

Re: NH ..Union leader Not Objective!!!
Do The Math.. ,maybe something like this...
Dear Ed, in responce to the article dated-____________ by _________, I would like to bring to your attention the following facts concerning boating on Lake Wini. 1) Large "cruiser" type boats create much larger damaging wakes than "offshore" boats do. 2)The speed at which a performance boat travels has nothing to do with safety on the lake if ALL boaters obey the rules of the water. 3) Nothing in Maritime law states that one type of boat is the "wrong" type and all other types as the "right" type of boat for use on a lake. In closing, I offer to you and the author of the aforementioned article the opportunity to travel the lake with me on an "offshore" boat so that you may understand and properly present by way of a truthful article, the FACTS and not heresay and unsubstantiated innuendo to your readership. Sincerely DTM |
Re: NH ..Union leader Not Objective!!!
AP~
Now were talkin' getting some great food for thought. I actually responded to the editors comments and asked him what it would cost me to take out an "ad" in order to publish the letter in its entirety... just considering of my options. :) |
Re: NH ..Union leader Not Objective!!!
And here is his response to my taking out an ad inquiry:
You certainly are free to take out an advertisement if you wish, and I would direct you to our Advertising Department _ David Rousseau (ext. 241) certainly could assist you on the pricing. However, it might be considerably cheaper, and just as effective, to contact the author of the article, Roger Amsden _ at 366-2357 or 524-8078 _ to state your case, and, perhaps, get him to take another look at the situation from your perspective ... This is a contentious issue _ not just on the state's largest lake, but on others as well. Obviously there is a serious division: If not, there wouldn't be an issue ... I strongly recommend you approach Roger on this ... Ed Hey... blownincome - sounds like we have an invite to bring up the case with Roger the author!?!?! :D |
Re: NH ..Union leader Not Objective!!!
We went through alot of this type of crap back in the late 80's up here and many a letter was written. We as a group formed the Performance Boat Club of Canada to give a somewhat united voice to our concerns over unfair vilification. Many cottage associations were lobbying for speed, size, horsepower limits etc. One thing that worked well was actually bending over backwards to get law enforcement on our side. We litterally rammed that fact that we were the good operators out there, not the problem ones down their throats. Research all the reported accidents on the lake in the last 10 yrears, make a spread sheet or a big colorful graph to show who f's up more often. challenge them with FACTS FACTS FACTS. Form a Lake Winni perf boat club. Then one mans pen as per say will truley speak for many voices. It can and does work. We were invited to speak with the Canadian Coast Guard when they were drafting new marine waterway laws here at the end of the 90's. Not one new law hurt the perf boat crowd, well, with the exception of mandatory muffling devices that is.

Hey... blownincome - sounds like we have an invite to bring up the case with Roger the author!?!?!
WOOHOO! THINK WE NEED TO GET HIM OUT ON THE LAKE AND SHOW HIM THE REAL STORY! BOB |
Re: NH ..Union leader Not Objective!!!
I'd offer my boat for the ride but would embarrass myself not cracking 67 mph on fresh water :(
