Audio, it was putt putt, Right? what a joke that boat is stock, i don't think that warden knows how to calibrate his meter, he was new, I would fight it if it was me

Re: Long Lake & Loud Boats
Well, I have installed a set of GGB mufflers with the optional hi-flow louver inserts. They have really taken the bark out of it.
I wish the crybaby would find some other cause to fight against. This is not even a safety issue. I can appreciate solitude; but why would you move smack dab in the middle of a recreation area and cry like hell that there is too much noise? There is plenty of solitude up north and that's where this guy needs to be. |
Re: Long Lake & Loud Boats
when I and if I beat my ticket in court next month, I'm going to send my papers to the tree hugger in Naples. Maybe next year you will need to install another set of mufflers for your mufflers!!

Re: Long Lake & Loud Boats
This is not going to be popular .... But here we go... I take my boat to Torch Lake MI. Lots of very nice 7 figure homes. My father in law helped me see the light...
LOUD IS BAD ... Quiet And Fast Is OK. Loud boats are not welcome... 98% of the boaters in the world do not own HP boats / Loud boats / GO FAST boat / or Cigar boats... So why piss them off " YOU WILL LOOSE THE FIGHT" if you are going to run inland lakes or well populated bays/rivers put the silent choice on or put the mufflers in. " People dont get upset with the speed as much as the noise"! I understand you want the sound and the speed but others on the lake dont get the same thrill we do from the roar of 500 + HP engines. Be considerate to others you will go much farther in life... And for those that choose to argue my point BRING IT... Because you are the ones that are going to ruin it for the rest of us with common sense. If you are in the Great Lakes / Ocean a few miles out and want to run open pipes Go Baby Go and tape it because I like the sound personally but lets not subject the rest of the world to our obsesion. The last thing we want to do is even bother to click on his site anymore. The more visitors, the more success everyone will think he is having. The BEST part of the videos is to hear his kids cheering when the next to the last boat took off.. What a knucklehead.... he deserves to be injured. Its tough to videotape if you only have 3 fingers.

Re: Long Lake & Loud Boats
Looks like the video's are gone. I read the page that he has there and I am amazed at what they say. I have NEVER seen any of the flyers or coloring books that they speek of. Also I am willing to bet that a LOT more time was spent with noise issues then they claim. What they slate on the books and what they tell the officers are two totally different things IMO. At any rate I think this is going to get worse before it gets any better.

Re: Long Lake & Loud Boats
I can't believe this thread. I know this is not going to go over well
but you guys are coming off like a bunch of cry babies. Wa, wa, wa, this guy is so bad, you make him out to be ruining your lives. Is this how you dealt with the loan officer at the bank you financed your boat from? Is this how you operate in your chosen profession? Didn't you check the local regs before you floated you boat? I'm sorry but how old are you guys. Get a grip. I had to muffle my boat cause I had a sudden noticeable hearing loss. I'm all for freedom and noise, but if your going to run in an area were you know your running illegal, then be men and deal with the reality. Suck it up and stop the f@*&* &ing whining. If we keep pissing and moaning and pissing people off all over the country there are going to be new restriction every year. I say run quite if your know your pissing your neighbors off. If they don't care then make all the noise you want. |
Re: Long Lake & Loud Boats
A friend of mine sent me a link to this forum and I find it quite interesting. Personally, I ask for a no smoking section when I go out to eat. I have no interest in getting second hand smoke. No problem with me if others want to smoke - just don't include me.
I also should not have to listen to others' second hand noise. Some noise? Sure. Reasonable stuff? Sure. But, it is clear here there are a set of folks around who do not have the curtesy to make their noise away from others. Again, no problem with performance boats. They might be fun for a ride. I have real problems with second hand noise others are subjecting me to. I was taught to cough away from others. Folks should respect others' feelings and be polite. Why is this not reasonable? |

Re: Long Lake & Loud Boats
Boater 29...hearing the sound of a loud boat is not going to give you cancer, the comparison is not valid. One is life threatening, the other annoying...to you.
I personally can't stand having my head blown off by a loud Harley with straight pipes, it annoys the crap out of me. But I respect those people's right to run their bikes like that. Just because I don't like something doesn't mean I need to legislate against it, it would be kinda self righteous and self serving don't ya think? Just because you don't like something doesn't mean you need to do something about it, sometimes you just gotta accept that you're part of the human race that likes some things that you don't. Get over it. |
Re: Long Lake & Loud Boats
Since I do not like the noise of a Monster Jam, I can choose to not go. When I live on a lake and others come around and force me to listen to their noise (which serves no purpose but to produce noise), then why should I put up with it?
Sorry - politeness rules. |
Re: Long Lake & Loud Boats
boater29,
It's VERY obvious you are not from the south nor have you ever spent any time there. It's a well known fact of life that loud pipes save lives. It's an effort on our part to address other safety issues on the lake that you are not worried about. :eureka: I gotta go now, I think my sister is feeling a little frisky. Buck |

Re: Long Lake & Loud Boats
Interesting concept. Someone offers suggestions on how to improve your sport and fun - and they get banned. Odd, self-centered approach.
High performance boats can be a lot of fun. I like my boat and before I bought it I did a test drive to make sure it was quiet. I like my neighbors and see no need to get them ticked off at my noise. I seriously feel this will go a longer way to promote what you all like to do. |

You remind me of the little boy that always cried to mommy when somebody didn't play nice in the sand box, or at least didn't play the way you wanted them too. |

This issue hits very close to home. Over the last couple of years, the local marine patrol in my area has been getting more and more noise complaints. The lake that I boat on is 38miles long and 1 mile wide. It's a fairly sizable lake. This year, since I play an active role in the Seneca Power Boat Association, I decided to set-up a voluntary db. testing work day with the marine patrol and the DEC. The officers agreed not to issue violations but rather let people know where they had to be. The day went great. We had approx 20 boats show up. 16 passed (under 90 db.[NYS sound limit] 1 meter back and one meter up, ) 4 failed. After everybody had their boats tested I had an opportunity to talk with the officers. They were thrilled with the results and were even more excited that they FINALLY had some AMMO to take to the local legislation. I also found out that many (MANY) of the complaints were reported by the same two individuals (One guy called in over 150 times). Most of the guys with the marine patrol or DEC actually think performance boats are pretty cool. They do however, have to act on a complaint which takes time, most of which could be doing something more productive. I was really surprised with their attitudes. It was kind of like they were happy as hell to have something to finally jam in the face of the complainers. I imagine that complaints get old after awhile. One of the tiny little factors that "complainers" have to remember is that a 90 db. boat is still a LOUD BOAT. It is also a passable boat in the state of NY. All of the test were done very professionally. Ambient air noise readings were taken, air density, Air temp, the proper distance was measured etc. etc. Each test took about 20 minutes.
I was really happy with the results. I felt it was a good step in getting involved with the noise issue. I really think that more performance groups should take similar steps to get involved. At least it lets the local authorities know you want to get involved and remedy the problem. Our attempt was the first ever of it's kind on Seneca Lake. just my .02 Check out www.senecapowerboats.com to see a few pictures of the db. testing day. |
Re: Long Lake & Loud Boats
I bet boater29 lives on lake norman, we have something every summer on the news or in the paper about speed boats and how we need speed limits on the lake.
|
Re: Long Lake & Loud Boats
Wow, have things changed. We had a summer camp on Long Lake in Bridgton back in 74. The family boat was a 17' Larson with a 110 mercuriser. Then the speed boats were bass boats with 125 mercs. The big issue was laundermat discharge. It was a great place to spend the summer. Wish I had my Dominator on that lake. Reading this thread makes me miss the place.

Re: Long Lake & Loud Boats
Lake Norman is a great place. There are rules of the road that boaters must follow - otherwise we have accidents. Going at high speed increases the risk of an accident - and not seeing the other boat. I can not remember where I saw the picture - of a boat cut in half by another boat going at high speed - at night. Everyone on board died.
High speed depends on the situation. Out in the open ocean is very different from on a small lake - even Norman. On a weekend it can be like driving fast in a supermarket parking lot. Irresponsible behavior in both cases. The boats are not the problem. It is drivers who do not realize they have to stay at least 200 feet (in most states) away from other boats, skiers, docks, swim floats, and downed skiers. Plus, the overtaken boat has right of way. Have a large body of water and the situation gets better for everyone. How big is that Long Lake Red mentioned? |
Re: Long Lake & Loud Boats
Did you read this on their web site?
We have temporarily removed the boat noise videos from our website so as to more clearly emphasize LRSLAÕs broad mission. The videos were displayed online to give viewers some idea of the negative impact boats that operate outside MaineÕs boat noise regulations have on our waterways. Noisy boats are just one of our many concerns as we work to make our state waterways safe and enjoyable for all users. It appears they are not an arm of the governement but a private vigilante group using a law to extend their self serving agenda. They do not have the right to tape you and post it on their web site as an offender of their self imposed righteous wishes. These idiots apparently have never heard of the privacy act or liable suits. They have the same laws in Ohio. As long as you are NOT being an idiot they leave you alone |
