Default SSM V question

Posted this in the tech section, but didn't get much feedback. Hoping someone can help here. I had the boat I'm in the process of buying surveyed. On sea trial everything appears fine. When drive lube sample was sent to lab for analysis, the report states there is high iron content in the lube. What does this mean and should I be worried? This is the only comment by the surveyor that is negative. Does this mean I need to rebuild the drive. If so, how much does this entail?

Any thought are greatly appreciated.

Call Matt at TNT, he's the man. Also you could call Dollar and ask to talk to John Klumpjan he's been working on speedmasters for ever, he did a set for me before, it's been a while but that was a simple redo and it was $3300.He is a great guy to talk to he spent a hour going over drives questoins I had will I was at the miami show a couple of years ago.Good luck, Steve.

How many hours do they have and how much H.P. ?Also what year and
last rebuild if any? Its much cheaper to remove and inspect than grenade
and destroy everything. In my experience if I have a bearing or gear set
going away my tank level increases more than normal.I'm running over
1000 h.p through big shaft #3s.

For whatever it's worth..We changed the lube on those drives this spring. I don't know how much run time was on them to that point, but we didn't notive any excess metal in the lube we drained and the lube looked good. So, the drives have the same hours as the engine refresh since the lube was changed.

1000 hp with 3a's! Mercruiser really did a good job upgrading that unit.
