Carfax
Can anyone look up this vin# ( 1GKEK63U72J286013 ) for me, the dealership that has it isn't being cooperative about giving me one.... they keep giving me excuses about the computers being down  ....

Re: Carfax
They may also be required to give you the prior owners name and city. Not their phone number or address though. With the name and city you'd be able to look them up. I've found some very interesting things about the car I was about to buy from the pior owner.

Re: Carfax
I have no clue who the prior owner is.... I will grill them tonight when I go with my checkbook :D I'm sure that will make them talk ;)
|
Re: Carfax
Call the owner before signing! That's how I found out one vehicle was nearly totaled. I also found out that the shop that did the work went out of business just after the repairs and that she knew didly about cars.

Re: Carfax
The only reason dealers don't give you a carfax on the car is becuase there is something bad on it...........Why would you hide anything that is OK?
LS JR. PS-I think carfax is BS! |
Re: Carfax
Yeah, Carfax is a joke. Friend here on OSO was looking into buying a Corvette on eBay. He actually won the auction, and went to pick up the car. Carfax was clean. Reason the car was being sold on eBay: everyone in town saw the OWNER of the dealership take the car out for a joyride and put it into the trees/bushes/mailboxes right in front of the dealership. He bought another car.

Re: Carfax
IT CAN ONLY WIND UP ON CARFAX IF A POLICE REPORT IS DONE ON IT OR IF SOMEONE FIXES IT WITHOUT REPORTING IT TO THERE INSURANCE CO. Because he was the owner of the dealership he had no paper trail or info reported to law enforcement so he kept it off the books. Its not 100% but in most cases it will show dirty laundry.
|
Re: Carfax
The report will only say something to the effect of being in an accident. It won't tell you what happened or how bad it was.

Re: Carfax
Well.... I like the truck... they gave me the carfax report, which looked good from what I see..... BUT
I am now more confused (and NO not because I'm blond).... Should I get the 6 year extended warranty for $4500  Anyone know anything about warranties and if this is a good deal? Ohhhhh and this isn't a GMC warranty, it is an aftermarket one  |
Re: Carfax
Do not spend the money on an aftermarket warranty. If it makes you feel better, put that money in the bank, and you will have it for repairs if you need them.
|
Re: Carfax
forget aftermarket warranties,I was an inspector for one of these companies in my younger days and I got fired for approving too many claims.
|
Re: Carfax
Heather, give us the specs on the truck. Year, Model, Mileage, Engine and Trans. My first vote is going to be against the extended warranty; but could change.
Did you have anyone look for paint lines? Open all the door jams and feel with your finger and nail, along the edges of the door jams for a paint line. Check the hood and fender areas too, as well as the gas cap. When under the hood, make sure all the fender bolts (along the top of the inside of the fender) are in original places, no messd up paint, or elongated holes. Also, with all doors and hood shut, make sure the seams between all body panels are uniform. Take a look underneath, and look for overspray on the undercarriage, and check the frame holes, used for attaching chains for towing and etc. If any of them look mangled, or stretched, this is indicitive that the vehicle was put onto a frame straightener. None of the doors should droop or bind when openning and closing. Good luck. |
Re: Carfax
2002 GMC Yukon Denali, 12000 miles, 8 cyl, 4L80E Tranny.... I do have a little bit of a warranty of 10 months/25000 miles
I looked all over the truck for dents, dings, over spray or any thing that looked wrong while Jason was looking over the engine and drive train.... The only thing I found wrong was the driver mirror was loose (I looked/felt all over the door and fender to see/feel any wavy paint, drip marks, or problems)... The mirror could have happened from any idiot in NYC driving too close down a street.... The dealer said it was going to be fixed along with the tiny interior things I found ;) damn I picky :D :D |
Re: Carfax
You will be fine without the warranty. Like the others said, save the money, and use it if something goes wrong. No matter what they say, you will not get your warranty money back if you sell it.
My 2002 Avalanche with the similar 4L85E tranny had issues when new, but all were worked out in the first few thousand miles. Good luck. What color? |
Re: Carfax
White :D
|
Re: Carfax
See Heather, I was right about that warranty. White is a good color. Both of my cars are white!

Re: Carfax
Beg, barrow or steal a paint meter!!!
This is a device that you set against the side of the car and it will tell you how thick the paint is. When repair work is done the paint will be thicker or thinner than stock. I have thought Ferrari's where in perfect shape only to find that someone wrapped them around trees and replaced the front clip. This is the best tool in the box. |
Re: Carfax
Thanks everyone :D :D :D
I knew my OSO Brothers and sisters would make me feel better... Now if I could have had an 800 credit score for the 0% financing  |
