Broken trailer spring- easy fix?
 

Hooked up earlier tonight for the week-end, luckily I noticed a snapped leaf spring before driving away. the wife and I heard a loud bang couple nites ago, couldn't figure what it was, a least it didn't happen on hi-way. Got it off in 20 minutes,Going to spring shop in am, how critical is it to get perfectly lined up? hope to salvage some of week-end.

if it is a double eye spring, and most are, it should line right up
Just as easy to put in as to take out.
Just make sure you have the center post lined up correctly

Thanks MnFastBoat, all fixed yesterday am, some guy calling himself Tempest hi-jacked my original post and made it his own, I got the answers I was looking for any way.

CMG, when you get the chance and can afford to, instead of the tradition leaf springs, go with the new one piece units. They last 2/3 times longer in salt water, probably 5 times longer in fresh. The one piece units don't trap water between the leafs and thus they don't rust as fast. And they are no more expensive. Russ

Thanks Russ, turned out not to be rot but over loaded. I had backed up to the top of driveway - put blocks under stand to get high enough for water to run toward stern, too much weight on rear springs. The rust was surface and minimal.

I have to do the exact same thing, guess I'd better find another place to park the boat. Maybe that's why I lost my entire rear axle last summer.

Well, I broke off the exhaust swapover project to move the boat. Is now in the far corner of the yard, (I live on a large corner lot). Now I have to move the whole shade canopy I'd rigged up to work on the boat where it was. Never stops.

I was never really comfortable having five cement blocks (lying sideways) getting the trailer tongue up that high, but I have a very sloped driveway. I never even considered the pressure on the springs.

Well it's on a piece of flat land now with only two blocks (wheel tucked up tight) so it's not putting undue stress on those rear springs. Wish I'd known this before.

Hope the neighbors like the new "lawn ornament". Luckily I live in a NON deed restricted neighborhood down at the end of a little peninsula where no one ever comes back here. Well, out to move the shade canopy. Again, thanks for the tip.
