Towing with an H-2 Hummer
Arial6Navy
I am thinking about buying an H-2 Hummer and want to tow my 33' Eliminator Daytona. I think the towing weight is about 9,500 pounds. A few people have told that the hummer will handle this with issue. Please give me your opinions on these ASAP. I would like to purchase now. Bad Kittie |
Re: Towing with an H-2 Hummer
Get ahold of Jeff Cheng (Board god #1). He tows his Gladiator w/one and has said it did well for the 5 hour drive to havasu.

Re: Towing with an H-2 Hummer
I Don't Know What A 33 Eliminator Weights But Just Keep In Mind That A H- Is A 1/2 Ton Truck The Same Chassis Of A Tahoe
I Would Reconsider Donz Jr Mike |
Re: Towing with an H-2 Hummer
Towing Capacity 7,000#
http://auto.consumerguide.com/auto/n...x.cfm/id/38137 You'll be OK, but watch the mountains and your breaking distances!!! |
Re: Towing with an H-2 Hummer
actually the capacity is 6750, I just test drove on and that was the first thing I looked for in the manual, that is why I shyed away from it, cuz if I am gonna get 10 mpg, it atleast should tow something.

Re: Towing with an H-2 Hummer
I am selling a H2 right now and I my Denali pulls much better.

Re: Towing with an H-2 Hummer
Friend tows his 28 with one, no problems
He has that boat for sale (In PB now), looking at a 33, plans to keep hummer. |
Re: Towing with an H-2 Hummer
H2 hummers look tougher than they really are,i worked on the transmission on one,it's the same 4l60e that a 1/2 ton z-71 and tahoe use(also the same one a 4.3 s-10 uses w/exception of a 1-2 shift servo),not indestructible like the 4l80e in the bigger trucks use,Smitty

Here you go. Don't waste your time, this will be safe and weighs 8800lbs dry. Now that is safety. I don't know why people spend 50k on a toy when you can spend 50k on a truck. This is an 03 PSD.

Check out the Gladiators in Havasu thread in the Cig forum . I page one I think. We had no problems towing. The pic you see with the Hummer and the back end a little low. That problem was solved by putting in air bags after that picture was taken. The towing capacity I think is 6-7k. I'm not sure how much the boat and the trailer for you are going to weigh... (I'm not gonna say how much the Glad and the trailer weigh) but I will tell you that getting electric brakes on the trailer are a must. It's late I'm tired I hope this make sense in the morning.... I will post the link to the thread I mentioned above. Gimme a sec |

Re: Towing with an H-2 Hummer
Thanks guy's. I bought an H-2 tonight and like it. I am going to try to toe with it in the next few week ends. If it goes OK, I will sell my F-250 and just have one toe vehicle. Anymore comments are always welcome.

Re: Towing with an H-2 Hummer
IMO, The wheelbase is a little short on an H-2 to tow something that big,. Might me good for moving it around town, but I dont think id wanna get up to any kind of speed with it.
|
Re: Towing with an H-2 Hummer
I have an H2 and would not even attempt to pull my boat (9200 lbs dry)with it. It does not even like hauling my two Seadoo's that weight around 900 lbs each. Wheelbase short and tranny struggles on hills. Tow with the big truck and keep the Hummer for pleasure.
|
Re: Towing with an H-2 Hummer
I have the H1 Diesel and it works well for short distances with my 38' fountain. It handles better than anything else I have tried to towed it with and it takes the turns well. The H1 over the H2 for handling. Sounds like a road trip is needed..

Re: Towing with an H-2 Hummer
Drives? Where were going we don't need no stinkin drives. Plus it's easier to tow that way. cb

Re: Towing with an H-2 Hummer
H2 = broken trannys with anything over 7000lbs. I am on my third with my Denali and my buddy's H2 was traded after his first towing a 27 Baja. H2 has no wheelbase and you need load leveling suspension. For my 29 fever on my Denali is horrid. It will tow and handle OK but it will tear up trannys. Save the H2 for the wife.... not to mention about 8 mpg with the H2.

Re: Towing with an H-2 Hummer
Wow...Scott has 85,000 plus miles on his Denali and he has towed Dragons and other stuff all over the state. He has no problem. I have no problem. I will make sure my H2 doesn't read this post. It hasn't figured it out that it can't pull yet. Diesel still the best then. Your correct on gas. Still not as bad as a boat for gas. Diesel best again.

Re: Towing with an H-2 Hummer
Didnt notice you were in FL. Makes more sense there. I busted the trannys in East TN and now in TX my Denali still labors. Towed it last week with a Dodge diesel xtra cab and it was night and day. My trannys are waranteed and by boat weighs about 8 k loaded up. Flat land it is fine but in and out of the lake causes major stress. Actually busted a tranny on the ramp getting out!!!! Not fun. I have 120K on mine so I dont care what happens now but my next one will be a duramax....I just wish those idiots would put it in a Suburban!!! That would be the best. I am actually looking into a custom 2500 GMC that I can have made into a Suburban. There is a place that will do it for about 12K and it is all aluminum no not much extra weight on the Allison tranny. My Denali gets about 10 or 11 with the boat on the back. Even in FL I would think your trannys would be barking.

Re: Towing with an H-2 Hummer
Read these posts = H2 pulls like Chit! They look cool but I damn sure wouldn't trade my Dodge for one!
|
Re: Towing with an H-2 Hummer
I tow with a 2004 duramax 4dr,i rebuild transmissions for a living and all these lightweight gm vehicles use a derivitive of the gm 4l60e/700r4, it just isn't designed for heavy loads. Step up to a vehicle with a 4l80e and thats a different story unless you outright abuse it,and if your like me (in a hurry everywhere you go) buy something with a allisson 1000 in it and quit *****footin around!! remember, this 4l60e in h2 is pretty much the same trans a MINI-blazer uses!!

A friend of mine tows his new 30ft Eliminator with one, and says it does fine.

Re: Towing with an H-2 Hummer
WILDMAN, did he have that Eliminator delivered in late April/early May of this year? Just curious. I think I saw that Eliminator on a flatbed heading East at the end of April, from AZ.

Re: Towing with an H-2 Hummer
Sorry we got her already. She bought one! NENER NENER NENER! :D:D:D
And they don't tow like chit. It pulled the Gladiator up Cajon pass at a nice safe speed of 60. Thank you very much. and towing faster would be dangerous. ;) |
Re: Towing with an H-2 Hummer
Yeah, he got it in May. He already sold it and got a 2005 36' Nortech. I may be taking in a 1999 H1 Hummer with 20,000 miles on it this week. He's trading it in on a new twin engined 21ft Liberator. It will be for sale if anyone 's interested. Yellow, like new, diesel, with a 3000 watt stereo! Email [email protected]

Re: Towing with an H-2 Hummer
I feel like I'm on a by polar web site. Anyway, I'll keep my F-250 until I tow a few times with the H-2 and then I will decide if I want to sell the Ford or just let the wife drive the H-2 and call it a day.

WILDMAN, is the guy who got the Nortech, Tommy. Thanks Jeff |
Re: Towing with an H-2 Hummer
The 21 was his in the spring. He got the 30ft Eliminator, so I bought the Liberator back. His Hummer is an H2. Mine is the military type H1.
