So far I have been paying other people to do this one and I have been working and doing what I do best. The actuall construction I am still trying to figure out what to do there. I just see to many of my customers get HOSED and it is so discuraging to me. You guys think that marine industry is bad, contractors are a bunch of theives for the most part.

Log homes are great but you may also want to consider timber frames.
With timber farmes you can get the same "feel" and cool look but you can side and flash them with modern materials. I have seen logs and cedar homes with big problems from insects and even birds.
Good Luck

HT1,
IF you are going to do this, go to a one stop shop. I would suggest working with a reputable General Contractor, (that you have checked references on Log Home customers), that has knowledge in the exact Log Home Kit/Builder you plan to use. Each area has popular Buiders. I went down this road in 2003, and it all fell apart for a few reasons, but main one being, we talked directly to the Log Home Builder, bought our kit from them, and they hooked us to GC, who turned out to be a crook.
I will emphasize this again. One stop shop, write your checks to one person/organization. If you want to sub out certain aspects, that's fine, write it into the contract.
