New found power!!!!

1 Attachment(s)
Runs smoother, and no more spark knock! I finally got around to changing the plugs in my Dodge. It's been spark knocking for some time now... shame on me

The one on the left is a properly gapped plug at .040" (an old one I took out and re-gapped). The one on the right is about the average of what I took out (I didn't touch this plug, it came out that way), about .070" or so.

What causes this???

Looks to me like someone had too many polish pops when they decided to go out and put new plugs in the motor!! :D

If the engine is a 5.2 or 5.9 and even the v-6's the will blow the intake plenuim gasket and carbon up the motor and spark knock. (Internal vaccum leak) We fix alot of them at the dealership.

5.9 and I had that checked once before... it was fine. I'm just wondering why the gap get's blown out like that??

97 2500 - 5.9 - 86k... I change plugs every 40k range. Had to re-bearing my entire rear diff last month. And running synthetic lube to boot :(

Re: New found power!!!!

the electrode was eaten up by the knocking cylinder causing the increase in gap. Other than being worn out they don't look bad. .060 is not an uncomon gap for a late model car or truck. What attributes to it also is that cylinder running a little hot causes the ground to get soft and sink. Not uncommon at all

I changed mine at 150K, there was no electode left. The spark knoeck eats them. Now the fun part, cap and rotor. It is all by feel but I bet it is green and black. It is a real chore but worth the $20. I bet wires would help also. Put the wires on the cap before you install it. I hope you blew the plug shrouds out, mine were full of sand.

Put new wires on it this past spring.... so that's covered. It's running great now with the new plugs.
