I know what your talking about brother, lost my father last june, 60 years old. Worked w/ him every day at our family Mercruiser/transmission dealership since I was 13, now 31 years old. Just think of the good times, instead of rough ones. Thats what I do.

Re: Please pray for my Dad......

Sad thing is MY kids think because I'm seldom sick and in reasonable condition that I'm going to be around forever. Seems the kids today are so busy with their own lives that they put OUR time together on the back burner.
I have visions of me kicking the sheets one day and having them wish they had spent more time with me. I have accomplished so many things in my life that they don't even know about. They could learn so much from me...

I know my Dad, and I say that regardless of where he is now, and how wonderful it is, that he misses hanging out with me. And I miss hanging out with him.

Better place? Maybe. But I bet he'd rather trade it back to be here again for a while.

All I can offer is that after 5 years, you get more used to it. Doesn't suck any less, but you learn to operate "through" the grief.
God bless you.

Don, sorry for your loss. I too lost my Dad 2 years ago and MC pretty much tells it like it is. You and your family are in our prayers.

"MC" nails it pretty good. I lost my dad to a Stroke on his birthday, back in 1971. He will always be my "hero". I too have dreams from time to time that he is still here, then wake up and reality hits. I lost my Mom on March 1st, 1983 from Cancer of the Liver.

I miss them both terribly to this day. Time does help, but it never goes away. The turning point I think is when you are able to start remembering him and the "stab of pain" is gradually replaced by a smile brought on by a particular memory. It will come, it just takes time.

I am sorry of your loss. It will get better, slowly, but it will. Russ

Don,
Sorry this thread didn't have a better outcome :( . I've been down the exact same road with my Dad , so trust me when I say I know how you feel. We too were best friends and did all sorts of stuff together. Unfortunately , life moves on and we all get left behind at some point. Smile , laugh and remember the good times..the fun times ...the loving times...it helps. God bless.

Thanks again all! Today we circle the wagons around my Mom, tomorrow we put him to rest. The next job is to explain to my 3 year old that her Grandpa is in heaven....this could be ruff.

Dyno, Very sorry to hear about your loss. Rest assured, that your dad is not suffering any longer. I know the pain in your heart, as I just lost my Dad Christmas day. I dream about him nearly every night. I now know that telling someone that you love them, brings a different feeling than it did in the past. My prayers are with you and your family.........

Kids understand more than you can imagine. My daughter still gets me choked up when she brings up her memories with my dad from out of nowhere. When she asked to get a picture in her first communion dress with my brothers racing trophy I could hardly get my grip. Tell them the truth, answer when they have questions, and they will amaze you with their perception.

Re: Please pray for my Dad......

My Dad is also my best friend, and I was even best man at his re-marriage. I dread the day that the friendship comes to a mortal end. He will always be with me, just like your Father. I guarantee you will still have the same exact conversations, and after all those years, you know exactly what he would say, so don't lose sight of that.

My condolences to you and yours Dyno/Don.

Re: Please pray for my Dad......

Dyno,

Sorry to hear of your loss. You know I understand what you are going through. Please try to find comfort in knowing your dad is no longer suffering, and that he is always with you now.

I still think of my mom every day. It never really goes away ... you just learn to get used to it. As time goes by, you will see that their spirit and their advice will continue to pull you through the difficulties life brings.

My thougths and prayers are with you and your family. Don't hesitate to call if you need anything or just want to talk.

Sincerely,

Chris
