Wanna talk tranny problems, talk to Dodge truck owners.

On Sunday morning of the Sarasota Offshore Showdown race, I had gone to my truck to get something. A guy was driving past me in the parking lot with a truck similar to mine. He asked me "had any problems with your tranny yet"? I said no, was running fine. He replied "you will"
THE VERY NEXT DAY the problem started. Wouldn't shift down into first gear when you came to a stop. Worked fine if you manually shifted it down, but would only go down to second. From the research I did I figure about 75% of Dodge trucks from 94 to 02 or thereabouts had this problem, usually between 42 and 60 thousand miles. Mine went out at 57K. Generally about a 5/6 hundred dollars repair. Dodge never fixed the problem cause they made so much money on the repairs. Was a cash cow for them.

I will NOT be getting a xmas card from the service managers at either Venice Dodge or Sunset Dodge.

I miss the days when men were men, trucks were trucks, and hockey players didn't wear helmets.

O.K. The verdict is in. I took the truck into the dealership and they say the torque converter came apart putting metal throughout the tranny. :mad: They estimate the cost to be $3200.00 for the tranny rebuild !!!! This sucks. :hothead: Dave

Well, at least you don't have to worry about replacing one of those $45 sensors????

That sucks....sorry to hear of your problems with the truck.

Convertor failures are common. We have done many. You should be able to do better than that on the price though. You should be able to buy that trans from the dealer at around $2100.00. Installation is 6-7 hours. BTW, yours trans is a 4R100. Good luck. Sam

That includes a brake job and oil change. While it was in there I told them to take care of the above and save me the hassles. I still think it's high tho, but atlest I get a 12 / 12,000 waranty on it..........Dave

Dave, the factory unit has a 3yr\36000 mile warranty. Make sure you get their rebuilt unit. Sam

Thanks Sam. I'll call them tomorrow and tell them I want the factory tranny. They were going to rebuild with factory parts but I only got a 12/12K. Thanks, Dave

Thanks Fin, I called the dealership and they had already started working on the tranny so they said if I wanted them to stop, they would have to put my tranny back together for a core and then buy the factory rebuilt. An increased cost of 1K and a delay of 3 more days!!!! Fkit.....I told them just rebuild the tranny and get me my truck back !!! :hothead: Dave
