Re: who makes the best trans for high hp
The ski race guys run a lot of turbo 400's modified, beefed up, and with first gear locked out, but park left in (for docking, prop changing, etc.) A lot of us run 1200 to 1600 hp thru a #6 (dry sumped) and race long heats, 50/75 milers, the Catalina (62 miles) and lots of marathons and circles. I raced the old Parker 9 hour with a turbo 400 thru a V-drive, and then finished out the ski race season. If you get a good one you can get a lot of hard racing out of it. Naturally the boats are fairly light, but that skier back there adds a lot of load, and we pull like crazy out of the turns. You may want to try one. My current boat is a twin with a pair of B & M's that work really great, the only issue is that they creep in neutral because they don't have a "park" in them...
