How important is warranty to you?

I have the option of buying 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 additional years of Mercury Warranty on my 496HO/XZ powerplants.

The boat is a 2003 37 Active Thunder. For those of you already interested in the boat, what might you like? :D

Seriously; I think I am going to go full tilt, 5 additional years, for a total of 6 from original installation/use. I think the only thing that would hurt me is if the only buyer I can find plans to rip out the powerplants. I appreciate your opinions.

Is it transferable???

Re: How important is warranty to you?

As long as it's transferrable, a warrantied, turnkey boat is a great thing..

Yes, fully transferable.

Warranty is extremely important. I'm sure it has covered many a$$es many times. Ask Nort. His boat breaks all the time. And it being transferable... sounds good to me. It's a no brainier.

Hey NORDEE where you the dork that sent a Formula brochure to the house? :D

I want it for my own use as well. I planned for this when I purchased the boat. If someone drops that pair of 525EFIs that Philly is selling in my lap, well, that would be cats-ass; however, I just don't see myself really hopping up the boat.

I bought the five year warranties on our 500 EFI's and the XR's. I got a very good deal on the warranty and it has paid for itself a couple time over. So far I have replaced one motor and one drive all under warranty. I say it is well worth it.

If you have a good local Merc service shop you are in business. Very good at no squabble fix or replace.

The extended Merc Warranties are only as good as the dealer thats servicing them. My .02 cents. Ed :)

the coast of a drive or 2 would probably pay for it self .

What's the small print on these 1,2,3,4, & 5 yr warranties stipulate?? Anything to be concerned or wary of Syd? Or maybe (hopefully) there is none! :)

And .... If you do stumble on a a pair of Philly 5 and a qtrs ... remember me for those 496r's .... I'll take em ((both for $7995.00)) like these :D :D

Re: How important is warranty to you?

The "Passport" warranty underwritten by Marine Innovations will only replace some major items once, from what I understand.

This is the premier extended warranty in the business.
FormulaGuard
Donzi Z-Care
ect.,ect.

They are probably underwriting Merc's Quicksilver extended warranty too, as this would be something that would be cost effective to farm-out to a third party.

Warranty...no matter how it's sliced...is insurance against lo$$ that somebody comes up with a risk factor for, in terms of dollars, and that we all pay for in some sense.

Re: How important is warranty to you?

This is Mercury written Warranty; just extending what I have now. I will be as well covered as I am now. I had Passport before, and so did Docmanrich37, and while I never 'needed' it, Rich did, and said it was a horrible experience.

As for the 496HOs, I will drop them off in your garage njgr8ful; for $20K; each. :D :D

Re: How important is warranty to you?

When we purchased our 2002 Baja 36 Outlaw new, Baja had a promotion that gave us a FREE 5 year extended warranty through PassPort.

Last year we had the port drive fail completely and totally lock up. They replaced the drive with a complete brand new one.

While boating on the coast this last weekend the starboard drive starting making a bad noise.

I pulled it off yesterday and carried it to the dealer along with my warranty papers and he said "no problem, we will take care of it for you". I have not heard back from him yet, but I'm confident they will take care of what ever needs to be done.

We believe there is a bad gear in the top end.

When is comes to auto's, trucks and boats, I think a warranty is a good thing!

I bought the 5 yr. extended, hoping never to need it and have 1 yr. left when selling. I think a used baot w/ even a little warranty is far more attractive than one w/o.

I agree, far more attractive on a re-sale of a used boat, no matter how short or long.

Bryan the check is in the mail ... need an address :p BTW .. Do they come w/ any warranty? :p Have fun!
