How to purchace storm damaged boats?

I have a few people who are interested in purchacing hurricane damaged power boats. Primarily the sport fish type, from 45-65ish feet.
I know of a few web sites but how do we approach insurance companies?
Any suggestions?

I need a pair of number six drives. If there's a wreck with a set, hive me a holler.

From my experience it is usually pretty hard to approach the insurance companies directly, unless you happen to have a contact through the boat's owner. However, if you can this is often how to get the best price, because there is a very limited number of people who you are competing against. That being said, the insurance companies prefer to deal with a broker, or liquidator, like one of the following:

www.coopersss.com
www.certifiedsales.com - also has link to www.yachtsalvage.com

When the insurance companies turn it over to a broker they are relieving themselves of a lot of the headache, such as answering phone calls from "tire kickers", and marketing the boat. There are many other firms besides those listed above. You can search Google for boat salvage, marine salvage, etc. It usually takes from 21 days to 6 months for "totalled" boats to make it to the market after a hurricane, so there should be a steady supply over the coming months.

Good luck!!
