Supercharged Engines...Life expectancy
I just completed 8 seasons with the same engine. No smoke, knocks, rattles, oil leaks or usage or connecting rods exiting through the oil pan. How about them apples?

Re: Supercharged Engines...Life expectancy
Your suppose to crank it and make it run however... :D

Modified 1150 Dominator. B&M 250 supercharger MSD ignition AFR prepared Merlin Heads Gil Offshore exhaust Crane Hydraulic roller cam pete jackson gear drive Merlin block JE pistons Oliver Billet rods Moroso Offshore pan Weston Machine shop handled the machine work. I assembled and installed. It still idles smoothly at 900rpm and rips up to 5000rpm without a single hiccup. |
Re: Supercharged Engines...Life expectancy
Parts list sounds great except for the gear drive.
I've never heard of a gear driven timing set-up lasting very long in a marine application. Harmonics/same rpm @ long duration = short life |

If I built it, it would last 500 hours with no horsepower loss. :)

Re: Supercharged Engines...Life expectancy
I dont understand how you guys are getting so many hours. I have a BDS 871 @ 5lbs making about 700 hp. I change the oil every 10-15 hours and had to rebuild at about 250 hours. The motor runs amazing but 700 hours??

Re: Supercharged Engines...Life expectancy
How many hours ? Man is this thread misleading to some perspective buyer. Blower motor failures are not a result of dirty oil IT'S CYLINDER PRESSURE AND HEAT ! ie. broken pistons and valves, neither of which are lubrication related. If you don't use the boost they last, if you do they don't. It's really that simple.

Re: Supercharged Engines...Life expectancy
You tell 'em big Jim
I hope to get 400+ hrs out of my NEW CHIEF'S, but I also know that ANYTHING can happen. And yes I stay out of the boost most of the time, I just like that fast cruise :D . Robert |
