Fellow Banana Owners
OK guys I need a little help with my trailering situation. I just pulled the boat out of the water this weekend and had the most miserable time doing so. My problem is that the trailer I got with the boat is not the right one for the boat. I mean it fits the boat and all but not very well. In order to get the bow to meet the bow stop you need to have the entire boat floating, and then slowly pull it out of the water and hope it lands on the bunks right as it comes out. This practice caused much frustration and even more anger when the bow came off the side of the bow stop and the metal bracket that holds it gouged the S%#* out of the bow.
  :hothead: Well sorry for the ranting guys. I guess my question is what trailers do you all use? Or if you know Charlie, who was the trailer supplier when they were being sold? Oh. Charlie, Thanks for the info you sent. And AirDog thanks for the prop advise over on S&F. I would love to check out the work you have done to it as I would like to change some things too and might get some ideas from seeing yours. |
Re: Fellow Banana Owners
sorry to hear about your damage...hope it'll be an easy fix. The OE trailers used to be EZ-Loader. My dad actually got a new one a couple of years back - I'll get you the model # and post later...

Re: Fellow Banana Owners
Hey Fruitta,
I have been offline for a while since I am currently in flight training. I drove down here, so I plan on coming back with a new trailer for my banana boat. I saw the photo of your trailer and you need to get rid of that thing. My current trailer is a welded steel custom made for a Banana Boat. I believe it to be an Eagle. It is the easiest thing to use. Easier than my 13 foot checkmate I used to have. It has deep V quad bunks that no matter how you pull or drive the boat on, it finds the center and your done. I am getting an Aluminum I-beam because I use my rig in the salt. You can buy my original Banana Boat trailer off me for a steal. It is definately a fixer upper with lots of rust and no fenders, but it is custom made for your boat. Call me when you get a chance. CHris 603-591-1391 |
Re: Fellow Banana Owners
Thanks for the replies guys.
I'd love to get the numbers from you Charlie just in case I need to order one ever. Chris, How long before you get back home? I'de love to come and check it out and take it off your hands. As well as check out your boat for some future ideas for mine :) Thanks agian Adam |
Re: Fellow Banana Owners
Adam,
My boat is in storage at my brothers house in Weare, NH. You would have to drive there to see it. I still havent found a trailer down here yet. I am scheduled to drive back around Thanksgiving so I have time to shop around. Also looking for a powerhead so I can go from one blender to two. Chris |
Re: Fellow Banana Owners
Sure just drive down or up, why dont you drag your boat with you and throw it in my yard with the rest of them. It looks like I have a used boat dealership. As a matter of fact anyone with a Banana Boat can leave it at my house for the winter. WE even shrink wrap and winterize them. Its a long way to come Charlie so you better leave soon. Rick

Re: Fellow Banana Owners
Adam you must live somewhere not to far from us if your boat is on winnie. You should come play in Portsmouth with us next summer. We were up on winnie this year and i have never see so many people with so much money in there boats that don't know what the hell they're doing. Its scary.

You're not kidding! We have a place on Sleepers Island in Alton. I was gonna ask where abouts you are at in Weare? I'm comming up to get my boat either this monday or next weekend sometime. I'd love to come by and see Chris' trailer and boat if you are available. Let me know. Thanks, Adam |
Heat Buzz
Just for the record. You do not want to store any boat at Heat buzz's house.
Yes the storage fees are low, but you pay in other ways. Each time you stop by to visit your water toy, something else is missing off of your boat. And strangley enough, by some sort of miracle, call it an act of the great almighty, the part you are missing is the latest addition to Heat Buzz's boat. His free storage is the web and he is the spider. :D :D :D |
Re: Fellow Banana Owners
Is the forward bunks adjustable up and down, if so you need to adjust the front of the bunks up to capture the bow of the boat sooner, or adjust the back down and pull trailer in shallower

Re: Fellow Banana Owners
Adam, Weare is about 20 min. south of Concord and 20 min. north of Manchester. I should be around next weekend, I don't have the holiday off I have to work, but you can stop by if you want. My E-mail is [email][email protected]/email]

Re: Fellow Banana Owners
Hey Fruitta55 (Adam):
Just getting back to you - haven't forgotten your request about the trailer model - just haven't been over to the shop to check the trailer yet. Also I feel terrible - I found the brouchure in my car last night - I forgot to mail it to you - will get it out in today's mail. Regards, Charlie Jr. PS - Check out the thread "More detailed Coyote History" for more on the Banana Boat etc. I plan to do a similar type history for the 24' sometime soon... Heatbuzz - talked to your bro yesterday - thanks. |
Re: Fellow Banana Owners
Hey - also just noticed - there is now a new forum set up for Banana Boat. I had asked OSO if they could do one.
THANKS OSO!!! |
Re: Fellow Banana Owners
Great news about the banana forum! Thanks OSO, and Thanks Charlie for makining it happen.
Don't worry about the brouchure, or trailer info. Its on the offending trailer now and will be until next season. So no rush. Now for everyone: I do have another problem that maybe someone could lead me in the right direction on though. The boat takes on massive amounts of water when ever it rains or just sits for an extended period. (Read as about a week.) It will fill the bilge all the way into the cabin. :( My pump is not set up for automatic pump out yet, but trust me it will be for next season. I can't find where it is comming in from. No visible holes and yes the drain plug is in and tight. Would that much come in through the battery hatch? Also why are there no scuppers in the outboard well? Just a 3/4" hole that drains staight into the bilge (yes I have a plug in it too), and the hand hole to get to the bilge pump. Is or was this the normal setup on the welled outboard boats or is mine A.F.U.? I pan on cutting in some scuppers and gassing in the 3/4" hole in the spring. But still need to find the leak.  Any help would be great. |
Re: Fellow Banana Owners
Hey Fruitta,
You didn't say in your post wether your problem is when the boat is on the trailer or at the dock. I'll assume it is at the dock. The hatch that covers the aft storage area is a tight seal, so I would worry about that. The motor well is probably a minor problem. My motor well has only one hole and it is in the transom so the water drains overboard, not into the bildge, but every other Banana I have seen had it the way yours is. I am going to bet one of two things is causing your leak. 1. You have a crack or leak in your hull that you can't see when it is on th trailer, (I believe this is highly unlikley) 2. Although your transom plug is installed, the seal that the outside rim of the plug makes with the hull is decayed or insufficient. I had the number 2 problem. I remove and replace the transom plug and used a lot of 3M 5200 and it has never leaked since. Hopefully your problem is number 2 since it was and easy and cheap fix. Hope I helped. Chris |
Re: Fellow Banana Owners
Thanks Chris. It is when its at the dock since its left in the water. I'll have to check the transom plug. I hope thats it.
p.s. I hope flight school is going well for you. |
Did you ever fix your water problem?
|
Re: Fellow Banana Owners
I ended up resealing all around the transom plug and the speedo pitot. We'll see next season if thats it or not. But couldn't find anything else.

Bass Ackward technique
It is a bit cold to try this one now, but in the spring I would suggest while your boat is dry docked try this:
Plug the transom like you were going boating, open your aft storage hatch, get the garden hose out and fill you boat with fresh water, (like maybe a foot high or so). Then check two things. 1. That your AUTO bilge pump works 2. That the hull doesn't leak. |
Adam,
Is your boat inside or outside? We should get together for a day this winter. I'd like to see your boat. I could probably give you some easy fixes for minor things that I had to learn the hard way about. Also I have a bunch of extra parts from restoring my Banana over the years that maybe you could use... Let me know... Do live in the lakes region or just summer there? A very close friend of mine is the owner of Mames Resturant in Meredith. I think I need to pay one of his bar stools a visit... CC |
