OSO is more than just a website

Yesterday in response to wanted to hire thread listed here on OSO I faxed in my resume. Somehow it ended up at the offices of OSO. This morning I received a call from OSO to let me know of the mistake, and they happily offered to forward the fax to the proper number. This was really generous for one to take time out of their busy day to assist a stranger, most offices would have just tossed it in the shredder. This seams to be a common occurrence on OSO, people helping people, and I just wanted to make a post of recognition.

I would like to say thanks to OSO and it's members, for taking that extra step to help other members of OSO.

Thats the best part of OSO, meeting in person the people you have been posting with. Mr P used to say that anyone can post anything on these web sites because they are anonymous, but like John Kerry, he has changed his mind! We've met over 75 people through this site,& I would venture to say that after Key West that number might double :D

Your Resume arrived safely at the destination. We will do anything for our members, that is what this is all about. For those of you that have stars next to your names, we thank you again. It is you all that make this all possible. We thank the advertisers also but the membership is what keeps us alive.

I have to say that some of my best friends (Yo PC's) have come from being here. Not to mention all of the others that I have met and gotten to know. In today's techno world, there is no place better than OffshoreOnly. Thanks Steve, for all that you do to keep us together!

Re: OSO is more than just a website

Well I have some good news, and maybe some bad news. I was called back on Thursday, the day the fax was sent. The first lady seamed really excited to hear from me, she said that she was forwarding the resume and that the second lady was in charge of hiring. I was told that the second lady would call that day or the next and that they wanted to have the phone interviews wrapped up by Friday. So I called the second lady Friday and she says that the resumes are piled up and she will get back with me in a few days.

So at this point I am bummed out, not sure if I was getting a gentle nudge to go away, or if things are just going differently than planned. I am keeping hopes up, and I will try to be persistent but not pushy about the whole thing.

Re: OSO is more than just a website

I wouldn't take it for anything other than what was stated. Maybe I'm off base, but a weekly (pleasant) follow up phone call wouldn't hurt. It shows you follow through. Any more than that, and you risk turning into a nag.

Good luck!!!!

Faxing....just another service the family offers. :D

Re: OSO is more than just a website

Tim,

Chin up.
If they were trying to nudge you they would have told you that the position had been filled.

Maybe they haven't separated the wheat from the chaff yet.

Re: OSO is more than just a website

It is hard to hold back making that return call, it is like when you are given a hot girls number you just feel the need to call now. I figure the middle of the week I should call. I am hoping that with it being a Friday they wanted to just get out of the office and on with their weekend.

BonnieOutlaw 10-03-2004 07:29 AM

Re: OSO is more than just a website

So, in your phone call bring your concern to the table. Tell the person you realize they are very busy and you don't want to contact them at an inappropriate time. Ask them when you should call back. Most people react quite favorably to that and will be frank with you. (ie - I can't believe how swamped I am. The stack of call backs are under this and this project. I will get to them next Monday) And then, call whatever day they say.
