Re: Check out center cushion!!!!

how does the 3 inch pvc pipe stay on the cushion? does it use those slots and lock in, or is that raised OD on the base a 3" diameter??

So in other words those 4 "base plates" would allow you to install 4 toilets which would out do all but the fanciest of "Cruisers" :D :D Just kidding (even though they are toilet mounting flanges), looks like a nice, ecomonical conversion! Steve

The 35 Sonics do not have the pull out. I am looking to do the same thing. mine is a bit more difficult because of the curved bench seats.

If i could ever get Sonic to call me back i would ask that question. 4 calls to them already. they take my name and number and say someone will get back to me. I gave up. Madcow, do you have any clue on how they did it? Love Machine has a nice one setup in his 35ss and i was going to duplicate that this winter. but i am always open to diffferent options.

I duct tape her to the v-berth and put my feet on each side of the large bulkhead up there for leverage  :D

How long is that center piece. We did that to our 40' Scarab and I think it was over 6 feet. It was so heavy and a bi$#h to pick up and stowe, if we had to do it over we would have made it in two pieces. It was nice for sleeping though since it was about the size of a king size bed.
High-perf what is that in the center of your v berth

My seats are close to 6' long. i was also thinking of making 2 pieces to be easier to store.

What do you mean what's in the center of the V - berth ?

Re: Check out center cushion!!!!

I looked at the picture again and I realize that the center looked shinny I realize now that it is just the darker stripe like on the couches.

Definitely use two pieces if you can. The concept is good but still hard to deal with. We used ours as a camper so we spent a ton of weekends on it. It was a pain because we would go out and party, then come back and have to haul all the stuff out, foam pads for comfort, mattress pad to hold everything together, sheet & blankets. Then in the morning put it all back. Often we were lazy and left it out, then it was a hassle crawling around trying to get to everything. Poor Mr P I must have spent hours b#$ching " I am to old to be crawling around an area smaller than a pup tent, 40 foot yet I only have about 3 Ft of space to get ready in, yada yada" Thankfully we have the BT and can sleep in the V berth, now when we come back to the boat trashed we just crawl right in :drink: Hopefully you don't have to deal with a crabby wife like me :D

Re: Check out center cushion!!!!

I just put the wood over the cushions and lay underneath trace it with a pencil. Cut the wood on the out side of the line. Mine fit really good that way, yours has a curve in the sonic but same concept.

Madcow 10-04-2004 10:07 PM

Re: Check out center cushion!!!!

What Sonic does is They make cross bars out of stainless tubing and hang it at the ends with the same hardware used on bimini tops. Then you just slide a piece of plywood out from under the V birth. 3 Cushions store in the closet next to the head. I was going to have him do one for my 42, but we never sleep in the boat. You could build the thing in a weekend for less than $200.00 plus cushions. best part is when your not using it you can't see the hardware because of the way Sonic shapes the couches. Good luck.

Re: Check out center cushion!!!!

The pull out on a 31 Sonic looks great, but problem with the Sonic pull out is the bench cushions slant towards the outside of the boat, so the only leval spot is the very center of the pull out. We are trying to fiqure out a way to leval the bench cushions so they are even with the pull out section without making them to bulky and difficult to lift up to get to the storage compartments.

PS, When you call Sonic ask for Bruce, he is pretty good about calling back within a day or two.
