Outdrives - Why?

I see a lot of discussion about why merc doesn't fill the gap between the XR and the #6 but my understanding is that III's & V's are still available and good to 750HP.

My question is why aren't new boats built with them? Are builders trying to go for the cheap by putting XR's on everything? Are the III & V's not a worthy drive? It would seem to me that builders putting in 700HP new custom power would be using these drives.

What is the deal?

Here are a few pics of the #5 on Stelling Ext. boxes with Bam 1440 trannies. Hevent had any problems, and I believe they are good for 900hp. The TMP motors put 750hp, and Ive had my share of bravo's, if you have the room, anything with a tranny is another plus, and definatley less worries of breakdowns, which makes what we all work so hard for is, to have fun on the water. :D Jeff

Jeff,
Can the transmissions be located in the extension boxes to help with space in the engine compartment?

I have a tranny for my #6 located in the extension box so the engine has not been moved from a stock bravo location.
