Don't rush the prep!!! You can easily use Gel coat if you want and apply it with a brush. I like light grey for most. What kind of boat? What colors are already on it?

What actually works great, is more readily available, and less expensive than BilgeKote, is a product by Sherwin Williams called TileClad(get the HS, High Solids), it can be bought at any Sherwin Williams Industrial paint supply, costs a little over $100 for a gallon of Paint, and a gallon of hardener, and reducer for cleanup, makes 2 gallons, enough to paint yourself silly!!!

Re: painting the bildge
I have a white bilge at the moment, it shows all the marks. My last boat had grey that I used two part epoxy paint and it came out great. Brushed it on. The oil wiped up from the grey easily, but my white bilge is alot more work. I am in the process of repainting it to grey.

I am using gel-cote on mine. Mix it 1:1 with Duratec and no sanding or mold release! I've got about 20 hrs of prep so far. The best way to sand down the old get is to use an angle grinder with 50 or 80 grit sand paper. Goes through it like a hot knife through butter! You will need a resperator, goggles, long sleeves and a hat!!!!
