Limey needs help!
 

Hi there guys and girls - I am coming over next Feb to Miami for the boat show, and never having been to that end of the country before (been to Chicago and Lake Tahoe before) I am looking for advice.

I am staying from the 15th till the 23rd and was hoping to hire a Harley for getting around on, and need a place to stay as well. The hotels look expensive but there are some apartments that look reasonable in the South Beach area. What is the Deco area like and where is the best place to stay for some good lively nightlife (single male here!).

I believe there is a Poker run on at the same time and I was wondering if there are ever extra seats going could I get a ride - I have beer / gas money! It would be great to compare to what we do over here - our poker runs are a lot smaller with a lot less big V8 power!

Any helpfull suggestions with regard to any of the above would be greatly appreciated,

Contact Sydwayz here on the board. He rented a Harley last year for the boat show week.

Let me do some digging, and I will get you the website of the Harley place I rented from. Great service, and nice bikes. I could not have had more fun.

Craig planning on leaving the bike alone night time! - Any "good" places to go? Should I stay at South Beach or somewhere else?

Sydwayz - Thanks that would be great if you could find out who you used - personal recomendation is better than an internet search!

Audacity welcome to Boatmad - I know Jon and I'm on there most days! I think he and Tony Davis are coming over as well as Matt and his girlfriend so there will be a Boatmad invasion!

Already booked the tickets for February! Would love to come over to the worlds as well but I am a racer not a spectator! Besides I got boats to build! Hope to catch up with you at the show maybe?

Honestly boatmad people are just that - mad about boats - our biggest problem is fuel prices - we don't really bite it's just English humour that's all! :drink:

I'm quite envious of you hiring a harley, I don't think there's a hope in hell I could persuade Vix to go on the back of one, so we'll almost certainly end up hiring a car, I suggested a viper, but that one didn't go down to well either. :rolleyes:

Thanks for all of the advice guys - finally booked a studio condo at the Shelbourne - $475 for 8 nights and it backs on to the beach as well as being close to the show - problem with all of this is I won't need the Harley! :mad: Maybe I'll see if there is one for rent when we cruise down to Key West for 1 or 2 nights after the show is over! :D If anyone has the name of a good place to stay down there it would help out as well?

What type of place do you like to stay in? Do you need upscale accomodations? Or do you like the B&b type? :D

Be forewarned: Since Lucas does not sell refrigerators over here, our beer is cold.

What part of the UK are you from? I've spent a fair amount of time in Poole.

We stayed at the Merlin during the Worlds. Wife loves architectural (butchered the hell out of that spelling) stuff. The Merlin is an old bordello, you know Whorehouse!! Great place. We had room 13...best one there....

Something middle of the road will be fine - probably bringing a young lady so not a bordello that is still in use would be best! Was the Whorehouse good value?

C_Spray - I'm from South Devon in the South West of the UK, we race out of Poole though and there is a photo of the race boat on the big air thread with Bournmouth Pier in the background! By the way I like extra cold Guiness but I'm not holding out much chance of buying any of that in Miami!

fund razor - Yes it is a RIB, we are currently producing the first leisure version (see photos) and we are going through all the approvals we have to do in Europe at the moment and they will be on sale in time for the summer!

Lofty - The name rings a bell - where was the photo taken? I probably know someone who knows him, does he race, build boats, or something?

Mrs PatriYacht - spoke to a very nice sounding young lady at the Florida powerboat club, and the Poker run is on the 25th - I fly home on the 23rd :mad: I was really hoping to at least even see how you guys run poker runs having been on 3 in the UK, but it'll have to wait till next year now - I'll book the flights to coincide with the show and the poker run!

GLH, you can busy my chops all you want, but I had more fun with the bike than you can imagine.

I have decided to leave my boat at home though. With potentially selling it, and installing a new stereo which is not completed, I don't want to rush it. Might take it down for a week in March.
