Re: compare 29 scarab vs 28 pantera
I race a 28ft single engine Pantera, great boat!
I own a 28ft 1988 Scarab Excel with a 550hp/502 that I have "adjusted" a bit, love the boat!
I would think from my experience in the Pantera, (and I may be wrong) that the boat will be very stern heavy with the twin big blocks! We have to put over 100 lbs in the bow to keep the nose down in the rough, it's a single!
I have heard very good reviews on the 29 Scarab with twin small blocks! Personally, I would pick a single engine (big power) 29 Scarab! If you are going to run it in the rough you will have to do a little going over the boat in terms of making sure that "everything" is tight! My Scarab Hull has been very strong and has a taken what I dish on it very well though!

Re: compare 29 scarab vs 28 pantera
i preferred the twin small block set up for a few different reasons, first and foremost i spend alot of time in the ocean and figured with twins the chances of getting left out to dry would be slim, i rode and ran a 99 29 scarab with a single 502/415 and didnt like the overall ride/handling of the boat at all in comparison to the twins. the twins get outta the hole better and it feels much better balanced not to mention that here on the jersey shore the market for twins is much better

Tims 28 rocks, and should be driven.

What about comparing the 28 pantera to that yellow 28 scarab on e-bay. That just may be affordable. I sold on the Pantera but they are to much money for me unless its a project boat.
