"CAUTION" FILLING GAS CANS STATIC FROM BEDLINER

Beware To All That Have Pickups With Bedliners. Yesterday I Was Filling 2 Gas Cans In The Bed Of My Truck When A Spark From Static Ignited The Can. What A Mess!!! Thankfully I Or Nobody Else Was Hurt. I Thru The Can Out Of The Back Of The Truck. When It Hit The Ground It Exploded. I Put The Fire Out With The Extinguisher That Was At The Pumps. I Never Heard Of This Happening So I Thought I Should Spread The Word. Please Pass It On!!!!

I don't know about PA, but here in Ohio the pumps are all covered with these big warning stickers about not doing this or not doing that.

I'll have to say though, I for one am not real good at paying attention to the warnings either. Talk on my cellphone all the time at the pumps, although MYTH BUSTERS proved that spark source didn't exist.

Glad you're OK and no real damage, maybe now the rest of us will pay attention to those big red and white stickers that say DANGER!

Now I just have to stop the wife from lighting the gas grill with the lid down, under the patio roof!

The stickers saying to remove the container from your vehicle and place it on the ground are there. That being said, I'm glad Proman escaped unscathed (except maybe for his underwear...) :D

The gas stations here have stickers and warnings all over the place warning of just this sort of thing.

"Place all containers on ground before filling"

Plastic bedliners electrically isolate all contents and do build up static.

Glad to hear you weren't hurt.

I've gotten a "carpet shock" when climbing in and out of my truck and then touching the tailgate. Surprised the hell out of me.

Are you kidding? no one reads directions these days. I still see people smoking while they gas up.

I saw one idiot many years ago for some unknown reason squeeze the handle while he was trying to put the nozzle back in it's place. He spilled a lot of gas and being the smart aleck punk I was, I asked him if he had a cigarette. Turns out he was an off duty cop and didn't like my question. He gave me the 3rd degree and was looking for a reason to bust me for something.

You are not supposed to use your CELL PHONE while filling a vehicle. I was kindly reminded over the intercom system.

"Pump 2, stop using your cell phone while pumping. Hang up your phone!"

Same here in Texas.

The other day I was at gas station & I told the guy gassing up his car next to mine & smoking a cigarage that I did not mind him having a death wish but I did not want to be a part of it. He had no clue what I was talking about.

It really is a very serious safety issue. My engine builder topped off the wall mounted plastic fuel cell in his Dyno room with a plastic gas can. A fire ensued that cost significant damage and he got second degree burns. It's an especially easy mistake for trucks with bedliners.
