Loudest Air Horns?
I am looking for the Loudest air horns for my truck. The ones that come with the Ford are a joke. Anyone have any ideas?

Re: Loudest Air Horns?
I'm thinking one off of a locomotive would do. :D

Re: Loudest Air Horns?
I bought a pair of Hadleys. Kit comes with 2 horns, air pump and air tank, all the fittings and lines. I mounted the tank and pump in my tool box in the bed and actually just zip tied the horns to the frame under the truck. I forget where I ordered it from, but I'll check my CC statement. Very loud!!!!!

Hey Buck how did I do? Can I fit in with ya yet? :D:D

Re: Loudest Air Horns?
I second the Hadleys. These are true truck horns, with 120 psi compressor, not the little 20 psi ones that come with most horns. They sound great, too. I got mine from a GMC dealer. I think Camping World may also have them.

Re: Loudest Air Horns?
there's guys over at the dieselplace running compressors and two different models of the horns off Amtrack locomotives.

Not bad, not bad. You're giving me an honest effort, that much I can recognize. We need to work on a couple of things though. First thing, all of the tires on it match. Won't work. And you're teeth are to straight and too many. I like where we're headed though. :D Buck |
Re: Loudest Air Horns?
Jon, have you taken the governor off that thing yet? Seemed a little slow to me.... even when riding in the back sitting on a chain saw case! LOL!!!

Re: Loudest Air Horns?
Train horns by far! Used to have them on the big truck and came in handy for the "wide turns".
|
Re: Loudest Air Horns?
You need to look up train horns on google.com Train horns will make most old farts sh*t themselves.
|
Re: Loudest Air Horns?
I would assume it is NOT safe to put the air tank in the cab of the truck? If not were else can I put it or does anyone know of a system were they do not need a tank? I assume to get them real loud that you do. May have to hire my brother to fabricate me a bracket for under the bed btwn the frame rails....

Re: Loudest Air Horns?
I have a pair of a duece. Blow 120psi into them and your ears will be ringing!

Re: Loudest Air Horns?
Jon, I second Rippem's statement. Do a search on www.dieselplace.com One of the threads had a sound wave attachment link, locomotive horns, he detailed the entire installation and experience. Quite funny, and effective if you really want to be heard.

Re: Loudest Air Horns?
I bought a new set of Nathan P-5 Airchime train horns on ebay a few months
back........ I tell you what, you put 120psi to those babies, and the whole neighborhood thinks a locomotive is coming down the street....... --Sherpa |
Re: Loudest Air Horns?
IF you want LOUD , you must have a compressor with a tank ...... You can put the compresser under the hood and the tank on the frame . It is a small tank . about 8" x12" or so .
If you want loud , & want them to fit , buy the hadleys twin horns . The two small ones mounted together ,next to each other . They are MUCH louder then the big ones . EXTREMEMLY LOUD !!!! I have several sets on my trucks where space is an issue . Like these : http://www.rv-parts-to-go.com/catalo...0_products.htm IF SPACE IS NOT A PROBLEM ,, YOU WANT LOUD ,,AND SCARE THE CRAP OUT OF EVERYONE ,,,,, GET THE TRAIN HORNS !! I have them too ! :D Horns run around $140 with electric solinoid , plus what ever the tank and pump cost . Here's a complete kit I just found : http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...728094039&rd=1 |

what you need is a chrysler air raid horn, I think it might fit in the bed of your truck with the hemi v-8 that runs it.
|
K5LA!!!!! 3/4'' Air bag valve, 150psi 12 gallon tank. Trust me its louder then anything youve heard!!! Hadleys are good, but if you want LOUD K5LA or if you need smaller K3LA. The trick is volume volume volume lots of air. I had two K3LA's on my last truck with a 12 gallon tank in the bed, and a viair 450.

I second hornblasters, this is my buddies Hummer, and it's ridiculous.

Airchimes K5la

go to chrome75 truckstop in wildwood, florida. they have everything from electric horns to air horns that are 5 feet long off of tugboats. and all size real train horns. exit 329 on highway 75

You know you're getting old when you need to up the volume on your own truck horn. :evilb: Happy birthday Jon. Saw the message at the bottom of the site.
|
I remember years ago someone posted a video on testing his friend's truck horn. He made a call on his cell when he was like 1 or 2 miles away and then set off his horn.
Yep! You could hear it clear as day. I believe he had real train horns installed... |

for train horns the trick is to use the largest ID hose possible. the larger train horns use either 5/8 or 1/2 inch ID hose. also you need a large volume tank, PSI is important but you need about a 2500 cubic in tank, Volume is just as important. On my last truck I had real train horns that were fed by two tanks that were 4 feet long and 8 inches wide. Also if you use a valve to turn them on instead of an electric solinoid you can vary the sound just like a train
|
Nathan K5LA . Period.
Go K3 of you dont have the space or budget for the K5. Dont waste your time on the hadleys or any of the other over the road truck stlye horns. If you want loud, and the real deal. Go with a true Cast Locomotive horn. |
Nathan and Leslie are the real deal
