Winter projects (12' 1957 Aristo Craft Typhoon)
Found this boat on the side of the road for sale cheap (no motor) - so I bought it. After redoing the woodwork I am going to rig it with an early eighties 40hp Johnson (short shaft). Some friends of mine think it could do 60 mph with a 40. They were originally rigged with 35hp. Does anyone know where to get decals for old outboard motors?
PS - It should handle 3in - 5in chop with no problem!

COOL! have`nt seen one of those in a long time. I think that it needs an old Merc though. Something that rattles a little and smokes enough to smell like summer.

I got this 40 hp Johnson w/ electric start and controls (runs great) for $150. It does need an old Merc. to be "original". But those old racing outboard motors can be very expensive.

Time is on your side. Keep your eyes open for a deal. I`ll bet there is a fellow oso`er out there that has one or knows where one is for the right price. Just ask.

Those were cool boats. The son of the original company founder still builds them new from the original jigs ,near Atlanta. Also has reproduction parts, etc. Has a cool website, got his business card and the web address somewhere here. Don't expect 60 with that 40hp,maybe 40mph,but will be a neat ride.
