need info on Bourget's (Sullivan's) 42 MTI
My friend originally purchased the 42 MTI/Fountain that was subsequently bught by Julie Sullivan and then by Roger Bourget.
My friend had the boat painted and then got an offer for it at a profit before he ever had a chance to bring it home. Several factors were involved with his decision to bail, one being that the insurance was so high that he just refused to pay that much on principal. Another being that while the boat (with 1000 Sterlings and drysump Sixes) was supposed to run over 130, it kept coming back running in the teens because "it still needed more prop". After several promises that it would break 130 next run out and it still ran in the teens, he decided to take the profitable offer and order a new one with 575's and Bravos because it was promised to run in the low teens and be a "stocker" that was reliable. He has regretted that choice ever since. The 575 boat has run in the teens but only very lightly loaded. With a normal load, it won't get on that last step... Supposedly Sullivan had the boat only long enough to pull the Sterlings and replace them with EFI Eickert 1000's. Boat supposedly got dialed in and has run well over 130 consistently. Rumor has it that Sullivan lost the boat back to the dealer (for payment issues) and Roger Bourget ended up with it. THEN the story has it that Bourget's local lake has a size restriction of 37 feet or something and the first time out, he was stopped and given a ticket. And that was the only time he ran the boat... ************************************************* I know Bourget has a 40 Skater, so the lake restriction story kind of smells fishy. I imagine that Bourget's "friends" probably got a lot of use out of the boat... We are going tomorrow to Cumberland to look at the boat (me & the original owner). Does anybody know any dirt on this boat? Seems like this group can uncover the real story on just about anything. Please advise. We leave at 6am. |
Re: need info on Bourget's (Sullivan's) 42 MTI
First, the size thing sounds about right. I assume he was ticketed on Havasu. He frequents there alot and there is a size limitation in the channel that they have been enforcing on big weekends pretty firmly for the last season or two (we got booted in a Tiger in Ocotober).
Second, call Bourget in Phoenix Arizona and ask him anything you want. He's very approachable from what I'm told. If you need I can get you in contact with him. I have a freind that's good friends with him. |

Re: need info on Bourget's (Sullivan's) 42 MTI
Yeah, that's it.
What's this about chubby owning it? I thought chubby had a 42 with skeleton heads all over it (Jokers Wild?). What about the stink? And maybe Bourget's boat is a 36 Skater. That would make more sense. Bourget has already spoken about the boat. Just looking for more third party info. You know, dirt.. The kind of thing you want to know before you try to negotiate a purchase.. |
Re: need info on Bourget's (Sullivan's) 42 MTI

I believe his new one is at least a 40' as well, if not bigger. He had 3 or 4 big boats for a while. The one in question sat on his bike lot he had in Mesa (east of Phoenix) for quite some time. |
Re: need info on Bourget's (Sullivan's) 42 MTI
Only differences in this Bourget boat and his current 575/Bmax boat are:
575/Bmax......................................... vs ..............1000EFI Eickert/Drysump Sixes Switchable exhaust under platform......vs............. drystack Stellings out the back of platform Yellow steering wheel.......................vs................whit e wheel color matched sundeck pads .............vs................white pads gray bed....................................vs......... ...........blue ish bed one owner 90 hrs .................. vs ..................... several including Julie Sullivan aside from that, they are the same boat... Same paint (he really liked it so he copied it). |
Re: need info on Bourget's (Sullivan's) 42 MTI
as far as the stink, I think it got repo'ed before she had a chance to smear her royal stinkiness in it...
Anybody know whether it saw much abuse (I'm not real sure exactly how you can abuse an MTI with sixes...)? |

The Truth Is I Bought Rogers Boat Jokers Wild A 46 Skater Then Traded It In On A 42 Scism At Lakecumberland Randy Is The Best.
I Love My 42 But The Truth Is The Boat Has Never Ran Its Advertised Speed The Problem Is It Is A Heavy Boat And The Hull Is Really Only 39 Feet Long With A 42 Foot Deck The Ride Is Like No Other In Its Size Any Qustians Call Me386-871-6503 |
Re: need info on Bourget's (Sullivan's) 42 MTI
Don't know any stink on the boat, but I do know that at one point, after the eikerts were installed it was at Randy's without motors. I heard a rumor as to why but don't
know if it is true so I will leave it at that. I am curios about the speeds though.Like who was setting the boat up.Teens to 130+.That is a lot to gain unless you were really off to start with, and I know Randy Scism would be very close the first time time out. Not trying to be Neg, just curios because I have don quite a bit of dialing in on mine with Randy and Gary's help. |

Re: need info on Bourget's (Sullivan's) 42 MTI
Went to see boat today. Nice boat. Used boat for sure, but appears to be very lightly used.
Motors out at Randy's? If it was at Randy's, then it must've been when it partially sunk behind Bourget's house. Supposedly a loose hose. Water never made it to the valve covers, as the story goes, but went and got a "strip and fix" on the engine room goodies along with new engine wiring harnesses. Bourget seems very defensive about this question and claims it was nowhere as bad as people have made it out to be. He only sent it for the work to be safe. He's probably shooting straight there. If the boat with the motors out was NEAR Randy's at Competition Marine, then it was probably the "replacement" boat with the 575's. Identical boat except for power and drives. Teens to thirties? Yep. Initial owner did see low 120's on it before he sold out of it, but rev limiters were the problem (props). Boat did run low 130's with the original Sterlings per Randy, but no, it never ran the 140 that was promised (and a few dollars were withheld for that reason). Thanks for the help. Saw about a zillion dollars worth of hardware today at Randy Hartman's place. Lots of premium iron there. Friend is seriously contemplating the Bourget boat. Now looking for a buyer for his low-hour 2003 with 575's and BMaxes. Low teens with Herings. |
Re: need info on Bourget's (Sullivan's) 42 MTI
I was afraid I may have not stated the missing motor thing well. It was the #6 boat, but I meant Randy Hartman. The rumor I heard had nothing to do with boat though. If Jimmy buys the boat will he take it to Key West. I always like to see more MTI's out on the water.
We will be doing the Thur. Departure. If he doesn't buy this boat, please remind him mine is still for sale. I have not Advertized it yet as I am waiting for the new paint for the pics, Should pic it up Wed. or Thur. |
Re: need info on Bourget's (Sullivan's) 42 MTI
Forgot to ask, did you get to take the boat out today. And if so what kind of speeds did you see.
|
Re: need info on Bourget's (Sullivan's) 42 MTI
Did not run the boat today.
Currently checking insurance. Then looking for a buyer/trade/deal on his existing boat - he has several options to pursue there. He said he doesn't particularly want to own two of these over the winter. If he can't find a reasonable trade-thru scenario, he will probably wait until he does. If the boat were to get purchased, I doubt it would make it to the Keys. Jim will be there as an observer this year. Look him up while you're down there. He will be hanging out with the Mitch Miller team. I'll be home putting out fires. |
