JUST A REMINDER FOR YOU FOLKS
Overseas Mail Deadlines Draw Nigh for Holidays
If you're sending holiday gifts to service men and women overseas, time is running out.
Better hurry, if you want to send that fruitcake via parcel post -- the cheapest way. It has to be in the mail this weekend.
Philadelphia postmaster Henry Dix says put it in a strong box, wrapped tightly, with a customs form on the front.
Then, he says, make sure you have the right Army Post Office (APO) or Federal Post Office (FPO) information:
"If they address the mail to 'Baghdad, Iraq,' it means it will be dumped into the international mail system which we have no control over. If it's sent to the APO or FPO, it will be taken by military transport, and the mail's gonna get there in the allotted time."
If you still need more shopping time, you can wait two weeeks and send the gift "Space Available" mail.
Or put it off until early next month and pay extra for Priority Mail
