Speed loss with B-Max drives
Can anyone with information on B-Max drives tell me how much speed you will lose when switching from Bravo type drives to B-Max. This is for a twin installation.
Also, what is a used pair worth with 10hrs on them? Thanks, Rick |
Re: Speed loss with B-Max drives
Some lose up to 2 mph.
If you are pushing hp's in the range to where an XR gearset is already smearing the gear faces under load, then the BravoXR is actually sucking more hp thru localized friction than the Bmax will. In that case there will be no speed loss with the Bmax. I have a friend who is involved in a three boat trade-thru. The potential owner of his current boat is planning to do a power swap on it. This will leave a pair of 575SCi's and Bmax drives needing a home. Probably can be bought very reasonably. If you have interest in the motors or drives, PM. The complete construction of the deal is not complete, and buyers for those components can help to make it all work. Motors and drives are still in boat and running so you can see what you're getting. |

Re: Speed loss with B-Max drives
I would guess that the 2mph loss would be indeed correct. I changed from XZ to XR drives and lost about 1 1/2 to 2 mph. There is a difference

Re: Speed loss with B-Max drives
I spoke w/ Dean at the Bravo Shop and he indicate that the hp it takes to turn the B-max is 5-1/2hp more than an XR drive. That is nothing. The speed loss that has been discussed is caused by changing from an XR w/ 1.5 gear ratio to B-max w/ 1.3 gear ratio. So the speed loss is in the gear ratio not so much the drive. If you take an XR w/ 1.5 and change to 1.3 something it would be about the same speed loss.
Do you guys agree...disagree.. Kinda makes sense to me. Rick |
