Runnin' W/ The Devil

Boats have ruled Ron Songrath for the better part of 50 years. First a sabot, then a catamaran, then a 21’ Catalina called blow me and a Bayliner powerboat named Poodleish.

Just before he ordered a customized $450,000 Cigarette boat, Though, the salesman took him for 650,000, Songrath met his (better half) wife, Kristen, 30 (way too young for Ron), at a boat party.

He named the 38-foot boat with white leather seating and red and yellow trim Runnin' W/ The Poodle, after facination with poodles. The powerboat sports a pair of 1,000-horsepower engines — pink engine breathers, stainless steel and aluminum. He scrubs their niches with an old toothbrush in his t-back thong until the early morning hours.

Songrath dresses to match the boat docked at Newport Harbor: burkanstocks with black socks, a white tank top with gold chains, and his signature flamed speedo shorts. Pictures of his last two boats hang on his office walls, and he brags about the time Runnin' hit 52.8 mph.

Songrath, a 70-year-old sales manager for a title insurance company by day, and a poodle groomer by night, believes boats should always be named after songs. But when it came to naming his new baby, he looked to the docks: Avalon, Marina or Cletus (Clete for short), if it were a boy.

Four-month-old Kayla is the reason this might be his last powerboat purchase — and why he might have to love his boats a little less until the Duffy arrives.

The first time I saw Songrath pull that boat in the slip at the Huntington Beach Offshore races, my mouth dropped and I said...okay that guy is the West Coast Tony Soprano, he is definately a drug dealer, look at the young little hottie with her sugar daddy on there (no offense Kristen you've heard this story before) I said oh man that guys the man :rolleyes:
