496HO Plastic Top Shroud Question:
1 Attachment(s)
I have seen a few pictures of shrouds cut back like this picture below.
Does someone out there KNOW that this is getting more air flow into the Flame Arrestor, or is this just some idea someone had, and everyone followed suit? I have even seen a few folks add the 500EFI K&N Flame Arrestor to this engine, but Raylar and Whipple both stated the factory flame arrestor flows the most air. Thanks in advance. |
Re: 496HO Plastic Top Shroud Question:
I'm thinking that in the small cats I've seen this in, it's about hatch clearance...not catching the rolled down edge of the shroud on the hatch's way up.
I cannot imagine that mod would give you anything more than additional intake noise. in all reality it would only make it more likely to draw warm air at the top of the bilge, under the hatch (though a negligible effect). Looks a little more perf with the arrestor exposed though. :D |
Re: 496HO Plastic Top Shroud Question:
My hatch rubs my shroud too; just slightly. I am considering cutting mine; just curious if my top speed is going to increase by 3 or 10mph.
LOL :D :D |
Re: 496HO Plastic Top Shroud Question:
12 mph :D :D

Re: 496HO Plastic Top Shroud Question:
Take off your flame arrestor and you'll see no rpm increase, I've seen it done. You can't get any more air flow than that. Save your money and time, the stock shroud works fine as does the flame arrestor.
