Re: Digital Cameras
Hydro, you are awesome!!! Where did you learn all of this?? Now I wish I would have taken a photo class back in high school, at least I'd have a good background......
What is a SLR?? Sorry to be so (entry level!) I have a Kyrocera 3.1, (the only reason I bought it was, it had the largest display screen I could find, my wife is almost blind) and she knows nothing about any cameras. I wanted something she could use and see. The next camera I buy I would like it to be; - Faster (betwen pictures) - have more reg. zoom, not digital zoom (I never really use it, its to blury) - have a faster auto focus (my friend was next to me in Key West and his Sony Ws-1? got great pic.'s - blew mine away!!!) By the time mine focused the boats were gone!! Any advise????????? |
Re: Digital Cameras
Hydro ..with all due respect..
Photos of images less than 10 feet from Cap are worthless.. The Pano FZM 10/20 is a great camera-great rapid fire- sound-movie, 12x OPTIVAL zoom, etc.. is all he would need. I doubt if he will be taking photos of rose buds... Cap..buy one at Best Buy/ Circuit City you have 30 days to test it.. Next subject please.. This naked gal just..... |

Before you buy any digital camera over $ 500-600 00 buy a DMC-FZ-20 from Circuit City and test it for 30 days like GF said. Then if you like it you can keep it or buy one online from some reputable companies for a hundred bucks less. :D If you go for the D-70 make sure every lens is ED glass and Nikkor. Off brands don't work nearly as well in digitals even Nikons. You will need a Nikon Flash for $ 600.00 too. Expect to pay $3,500.00 for the system. If you want to get to the maximim zoom a FZ-20 can get to using a 1.4x and digital zoom you will need another $ 3,500 for a 2400mm lens. It's worth it but hey...they are redesigning ccd's completely in 2-3 years I heard ...I am sticking with my Nikon and Leica 35mm cameras till then. |

...Dear Santa...
Hydro has been a bad boy in 2004. Got kicked off OSO twice...was not supportive about using steps on V-Hulls......cuts and pastes without permission...thinks he is an attorney...recommend you don't give him any X-mas presents....now, as you know I am the new moderator in the "Bilge"....don't forget the 25,000 rounds for the new Glock and a pair of 525's for the Formula...oh and a girlfriend for the wife...sorry I didn't leave you any donuts and milk last year...I was hungry :drink: P.S. I am not related to Allen4...he's a Putz...those are just rumors :p Signed, Your favorite Trooper Troutly. :D |
Re: Digital Cameras
A Good Canon or Nikon 35mm with the new Kodak High Definition film will kill any and all digitals.Period.

While CCD chip cameras are real good, the C-mos chip cameras are superb. check it out. Im heavily invested in Canon 2.8 "L" lenses so I have to use Canon forever I guess. I got an EOS 1 and Elan 35mm but I really need to get a Canon dig SLR with C-mos chip inside bad. I used to use a Nikon F4 & F3 with 80 -200 2.8 "ed" and "D" lenses for years too.I think its a tad sharper over my canon EOS1 80-200 2.8 L. I like Canon's because their so fast, but ya can't argue with Nikon either, plus the optics on Nikon's pro lenses are so damn sharp. always like these camera threads. T here's a back lit shot with the Canon EOS1 80-200 2.8 "L". 35mm 100ASA film to CD. no fumbling or bumbling CCD vs. CMOS CCD: "CCDs offer superior image performance (as measured in quantum efficiency and noise), and flexibility at the expense of system size. They continue to rule in the applications that demand the highest image quality, such as most industrial, scientific, and medical applications". CMOS "CMOS imagers offer more integration (more functions on the chip), lower power dissipation (at the chip level), and smaller system size at the expense of image quality and flexibility". In 2-3 years CMOS ships will be EQUAL to CCD chips. That's why I am saving my money and getting the next generation digital SLR. |
Re: Digital Cameras
Nikkor is going to be switching all lenses to ED glass in the next 2-3 years too as I had called and discussed this with them.
"It's also interesting that both new digital SLRs have CMOS sensors as opposed to CCD sensors. Previously, top-of-the-line SLRs from Canon and Kodak (as well as Nikon) had CCD sensors, which are more costly to produce. Besides a lower production cost, CMOS sensors use less battery power, which is important to all digital photographers". http://www.dodgeglobe.com/stories/10..._cameras.shtml "Canon and Kodak introduced new digital SLR (single-lens-reflex) cameras at the recent Photokina show in Cologne, Germany. The Canon EOS 1Ds has 11.1 megapixels and will sell for around $7,500. The Kodak DCS Pro 14n has 13.8 megapixels and will sell for approximately $4,000. Both cameras have CMOS image sensors the size of a 35mm film frame, which is a first for any digital SLR". These are the first 2 digital cameras that offer image sensors equal to that of "35mm film" ever. They just have been released and both are very costly. the CMOS units in them are still in a "prototype" like stage. That's why I am waiting. It will be 2-3 years before CMOS is as good as CCD's. "Nikon did not introduce a new digital SLR at Photokina. The company did, however, introduce an innovative SLR, the 6.1 megapixel Nikon D100, back in February at another photo convention. The D100 has a smaller-than-35mm CCD image sensor and sells for about $2,000". For the moment Canon is tops again in the top end cameras. Nikon is still developing cmos chips. Top end digital SLR's are still in their infancy. |

I had my FZ-20 with me on the way to a family get together..

Re: Digital Cameras
Called Nikon today about color saturation issues. They said the camera had average saturation and was not equal to film. They said in late '05 or early '06 new ccd's or possibly CMOS will be added with 8-10 million megapixels. It will be a "new" model. The D-70 may continue onward unchanged with a price reductio..tech was not sure.

Well I finally got to the airport and it was really foggy. The galveston airport has a picnic spot on the roof of the tower and that is where the pictures are taken from. The would be a lot clearer if it wasn't so foggy. But some of them came out really good.

oso shrinking the pictures doesn't do them justice.... have to click on them to get a sort of decent pic. The camera was set to shutter priority and a speed of 1/1600 for the pics that came out best, ISO 64, and mostly auto focus.... here is a pink cessna... even my wife thought it was gay.
The camera stops Helicopter blades in flight and that is what I wanted so I am happy :D now I just have to wait for a clear sunny day Ernie |

Here is the best settings for the FZ-20 with the 383 Sunpak: If you have a Panasonic/Leica DMC-FZ-10;15 or 20 and a Sunpak 383 or Quantary 383 flash..(same units made by Sunpak)...here are the perfect settings: Set the camera as follows: Contrast: High Sharpness: High Saturation: Std. Noise: Std. Ext flash to "manual" EV: -1/3 Aperature setting to f4 : put camera on “A”perature setting ISO-80 White balance to "Auto" Metering to "Center Weighted" Auto focus to : 3 area focusing (3 green rectangles across in the middle) Set flash to: Yellow Auto mode ISO 80 This gives 4' to 30' Auto flash Used these settings for Christmas 2004 Arc Soft: Photobase 4.5…. most were showing up on “autofix” +11…. fixed and sent to Sony. Flash on Red Auto iso 100 equals f 8 Range 0.6m-4.5m 2ft-15ft Auto Flash Not tested with camera on EV: -1/3 Flash on Green Auto iso 200 equals f 2.8 2.3m-18m 7.5ft-59ft Not tested with camera on EV: -1/3 Outdoors: Cloudy EV:-1/3 Very Bright sun camera EV:-2/3 Not tested outdoors with these settings. Suggest aperature of 5.2 – 5.6 best for depth. Indoor picture shot with 383 on those settings. Amazing camera!! :D ...just left click on the picture and it will go to normal resolution. |
