Default $200K for 10' More Boat? Same Builder!

How can a builder justify charging $200K more for a similarly equiped boat (e.g. twin 525s with Bravo drives) for a 40+ foot boat ($380K) versus a 30+ foot boat ($180K)? I understand that there are more materials and some additional labor, but $200K worth?

Most builders have step-up pricing as the size of the boat increases, but I was surprised that this builder had such a huge jump.

What's up with that?

alot more cockpit and cabin and that adds up fast... and don't under estimate what 10' of hull costs...

Since it is the same builder, the features in the cockpit and cabin are the same (bolster to head to refrigerator to gauges). Everything is just a bit bigger. I guess there is a lot of $$ in the materials!?!?!

Look at it this way. You can buy a 28ft boat for $80k-$100k. If you bought two that would be $160k-$200k and theoretically a 56ft boat. Try buying a 56ft boat for $200k.

So where is the extra cost? R&D I suppose. But what if they are extending an already used platform/hull? I agree that it is what the market will bear.

And are these list prices or what you can buy the boat for.

These were list prices from the same builder.

I could see a $50K bump to get into the 40' from a 30+' boat, but $200K??

Did not want to share the builder name, as it is their decision on where to price any boat. I guess it is what the market will allow.

Scott, approx from say from a typicle manufacturer, not mentioning names a 39 to a 43 there is a 60-80k bump, then when you go to a 50 I believe its another 70-80k bump plus the fact you will have trip motors and drives on top of that, as well as gauges and a few more things, which could easily be a 150k. The ammenities will be the same in the 43-50, and slightly less on the 39. Alot of it depends on the manufacturer and what the market will accept, Good luck. Jeff
