I just did a little digging because it's been a while since I'd read anything on this and couldn't remember what the exact issue was.

What's happening is that Cell Carriers are considering publishing a Cell Phone Number Directory.

Based on a 1991 Bill, Telemarkters cannot make calls to a number where it would be a cost to that person for the call; i.e. using cell minutes. Therfore, Telemarketers cannot by law call cell phones, but we know how that would work. A published directory would make the numbers available to anyone. Heck, I've already gotten text messages trying to sell me whatever it was that they used to get my cell number! (that's also illegal)

Another piece of this is that with the way the current Bill is written, the carriers would have to get your approval to publish your number, and new subscribers would have to clearly have the option to opt out before signing up.

I would suspect that if my carrier participated in creating a directory and I started getting Telemarketing calls somehow, I'd be on the phone with them constantly, getting credit for those minutes and I'm sure they don't want millions of subscribers doing that. But who knows.

This is and has been considered and could happen in the next few months. :(

I've had a couple of these calls to my cell phone already and believe me, those people won't be making that mistake again. I have signed up my numbers and my parents numbers. Thanks TSG!

Yeah, but aren't you giving your number and email to "the man," "the establishment," "the government? by doing this?

Someone is gonna die , If my cell starts ringing with that crap.

I also got my mom a cell. It only has like 10 minutes a month and is just in case of a accident or emergency. Now if she gets over 10 minutes the rate is like .40 a minute.
I hope they are ready to refund people for that crap.
