Outboard fishing boats
 

Does anyone use their outboard CC's for fishing?
My father might have to make the switch over.
He has always used inboards, and thinks the outboards will get in the way, especially when landing the fish. I told him he will adapt and bring the fish to the sides.
In NY most of the fishing boats are inboards, but I know in FL many guys that are serious fisherman use OBs, so they can't be too bad.

The question is... do the outboards get in the way?

On the coast here you rarely see a center CC boat that isn't outboards. They are perfect for fishing. As fever mike stated if your chasing bill's all the time then having a Bertram, Hatteras, Buddy Davis type boat that is 36' - 60' would be ideal but then your getting into some 51' OL type of coin.

Yes Sir. We fish off our boat every once in a while... We have always had outboards and you just learn to live with them. Tip.. While bottom fishing, engage the gears so that the props don't free spin. If the current is towards the back of the boat, your lines will get tangled on the props. That could happen on an inboard too though. It's not that much of a pain. Some of the charters here like Bouncer's Dusky use outboards.

Right now my father has one of the Best Bill Fishing boats there is, does regular fishing just as well.
Its also an awsome handling boat. He has had it out in 18ft + seas and it handled like a champ. It runs 29 knot cruise(32mph) and burns 1.5gal/mi.
The boat is for sale and he need to down size.
He likes the 38 Sterling, but is unsure of outboards.

Thanks Mike. It's a 98' 25 with T- 300 Promaxes. I love the boat. 82 is the best I have been able to get out of it and that was with ideal conditions. Best thing I like about it is the way it handles even in the rough. If the waves are close together, like a 3 foot chop it is a blast to drive.
I really like what you did with that Concept. The graphics are awesome. That thing must handle nice in the rough huh ?

I grew up fishing CC's w/ OB's. Currently my fam has a 28 century. The OB's dont get in the way at all. I was just always used to bringing the fish to the side. Even on our other boat w/ t indboards i bring it to the side. Heres a nice t/ inboard C though

We have a 36 Yellowfin w/ tripple 225's 70 mph. Also fished a 37 OL CC w/ (2) 600 SC's 90 mph never had trouble with the lines on either. Used to have 55 Viking, and enjoyed fishing the smaller boats more.

How come you enjoyed the smaller boats more ? Is it the manueverability ? Just wondering because our goal is to get something bigger in the future. I think it would be pretty cool to go in the cabin with A/C and chill out for a while when the kids get tired of fishing, the wife gets cranky...or visa versa :D Let me know....

My father just checked out the sterling and was impressed w/ the finish on it.
They say triple 250s get it moving... not 70, but enough for my old man.
He won't own narrow beam boat... too much rocking while drifting and not as much cockpit space. It seems like a good combination of fishing space w/ performance.
The intrepid tries to cram too much into their boats.

He is really spoiled having a custom built boat for the past few years.
He has alot of pride in it... he was fully involved w/ the layout and design.
Damn, it only took up 3+ years of his life.
