Re: Outboard motor question

Guys,
Now that I have woven myself into the world of outboards (I work for Evinrude), I can certainly be of assistance.

Ironman- PM me your phone number if you like and I'll give you a call.

Two Stroke Vs 4 Stroke------
The 4 stroke myth was accomplished via good marketing by Yamaha....

To those that think they want a 4 stroke- Ask yourself "Why do I want a 4 stroke?" You probably won't have a good solid answer.
4 strokes are:
-more $$ to purchase
-WAY more maintenance, time and cost
-Much heavier
- Less HP and Torque (for some reason people think 4 stroke has torque- WRONG)
-Shorter service life.

Some 4 strokes get decent economy and are quiet.
FYI- The new "Virado"... gets the same fuel economy as the OMC 300 V8 in 1987!!!!!!!

Ya'll remember that I am always here to help.

Re: Outboard motor question

Both are good engines.

I would go for the carbed Yamaha- I feel more comfortable working on a simple engine thats harder to screw up. Yes it may be noisier, smokier and burn more, but a proven design that works. That being said, I run a 150 HPDI to work in the summer- I think direct injection 2 strokes are great.

Not knocking the E-Tec...I would not hesitate in the right application, but I would also like to see them around a little longer before I make a good decision...same for the Verado. Or any new product for that matter.
