Default Considering Chevy 2500HD tow vehicle

Considering '02 Chevy 2500HD Duramax diesel 4 x 4 Crew Cab to pull my Top Gun. Anyone have information on this setup? Comparison to F250 or Dodge 2500? I plan on using the truck for more than just pulling the boat.

Thanks

Ohh no not again. This topic has been beaten to death and basically most guys are brand loyal. I have a 2002 chevy duramax allison and i love it. I pull a 33 powerplay on a steel triple axel and it handles it fine. I also have mine lifted with 35" tires.
Everyone has an opinion and basically when you compare all the big three diesels they are all very nice. I will say one thing the allison trans is hard to beat.

My neighbor just traded his not very old Duramax for a new Ford. The Chevy had too many problems with the fuel injectors. It left him stranded several times. One time it managed to fill the crankcase with diesel. Chevy handled the problems, time and again, and even increased the warrantee period. But he was not confident with the Duramax, so he traded it. If you are going to buy a used Duramax, ask about the injectors and specifically if there is an extended warantee on them.

The injectors on the '02 are warrented for 200,000 miles.

One word for you: Allison.

That should be enough. Then again, I am kind of partial. Plus I'm a Chevy guy and have 2 Duramax/Allison HD's. The injector thing was taken care of. Ironically, I have heard of the filling the crankcase with fuel scenario 20 times more with the 6.0 Ford than I have with the Duramax. The '05's don't have that problem. I have an '02 and haven't had any problems in 60K hard miles.

Plus did I mention Allison?

They are all very nice trucks, hard to go wrong with any of them. I didn't like the Dodge merely because of the ride, it was VERY rough. Only thing I didn't like about the Ford was the interior, otherwise it drove really nice. Ended up getting the exact truck you describe in Carbon metallic......

Had a couple problems specific to my truck, but now really like it. Getting 20mpg. My old suburban wouldn't have gotten that being towed on a dolly behind another vehicle.! All of them have MORE than enough power to tow anything you should be towing with a 3/4 ton pickup chassis.....
