cost of # 6 dry 's and transmissions
 

Does anyone have an idea what these drives and transmissions will cost me. ? I want to buy a fountain 42 executioner but put Sterling 950's in with these drives and and trans. Would it be better to buy boat with 525's and # 6' and sell them or buy seperate?

Whats a better way to go is gonna depend on what you are paying to start with.

#6's and trans will run about 35-40k per side.


If you've got 500k laying around for the entire package, just make sure you have about 3 mill in insurance. I have a feeling you might need it :rolleyes:

I've heard that there are 2 or more different fountain 42 hulls one was designed for the big power and one was designed with some hook in it so the smaller power would get it up and running better.... I don't know exactally waht you are looking at, but the hull with the hook in it IE the slower hull will act funn at higher speeds with bigger power... I think it was designed with 525's in mind.... you really need a #6 boat if you are gonna put 6's on it.

This is just what I have heard others may know better

I have heard that unles you are spinning your motors over 6000 RPMs you will see no benefit from dry sump drives. I'm not say I know this to be true, but I have heard it from smart people more than once.

Listen to TopSpin 80 do not buy a 42 Executioner with the intent of re powering with sixes and big power, you will be well ahead of the game to purchase the complete package, retail for a 42 Lightning with 1075's and dry sump #6.

Last I heard... the entire #6 package... gimbal housing... steering etc... was about 56k per side...... :eek:

The benefit of the dry sump models is the motor isn't wasting HP slinging the lube out of the way... I understand it robs about 35 hp per side.... :(

I have a comlete set of #6 drives,gimbals W/herring skegs converted to dry sump by Weisman.Complete with remote dry sump tank and all hoses and fittings for $50000.00.I also have a set of stelling extension boxes for$3000.and a set of 1 inch spacers for $1750.

At what RPMs? And what plesure boat is going to see ANY difference with 70 more HP? My boat only has 1500 HP, and I cant imagine going one more MPH with 1570. when your talking 2350 HP. what is 70 one way or another.
