Thanks for the story!! I just drove my boat on the freeway without straps. I was so nervous! I will never do it again!

I make beefy tie downs, check out the 3" winch strap thread.

Transom tie-downs are kind of a "top-of-the-ramp" item.
The safety chain ensures that you GET to the top of the ramp. Or at least clear of the water, so you can install your transom tie-downs. . . .

thanks for the wake up call..............my winch strap snapped recently also, good thing the ramp was not that steep......safety chain going on before the boat hits the water again

I always use my safety chain and I still replace my winch strap once a year whether I "think" it needs it or not.

Warparty36 makes a great 3" strap.

Yep, Saw a 31 AO cat at LOTO pop off the hitch. It only had safety "cables". The cable crimped ends pulled out, the whole rig rolled down the ramp into a dually. Hell of a collision. Very lucky no one was killed.
Also saw a winch fail on a brand new 26' open bow. Slid off the trailer while launching, bounced a couple times, then slid part way into the water. The owner unclipped the strap, gave it a shove into deeper water, and went boating! Never even checked for damage!
