What to use on the boat.
LIke everyone, I have put the boat away for the winter. It's kept inside a shop with the covers on. The other night I had a Nightmare That a rat got in the boat and, you can figure the rest. My question is, what could I put in the boat to deter them from looking to make a home in it?

Re: What to use on the boat.
I have always used dryer sheets every where
just make sure the area is dry where you place them also helps take away the smell in hte spring time |
Re: What to use on the boat.
I used moth-balls/moth crystals in various places in the cabin, cockpit, and engine compartment. I made sure to get some down in the stringer area in the engine compartment so they wouldn't have a party underneath. It worked well.

Re: What to use on the boat.
I have put those little boxes of rat/mice poison in key locations inside the cabin and cockpit. Figured if they got in there, they would do too much damage before they croaked.

Re: What to use on the boat.
go the trap route. talk about stink, a dead festering rat/mouse will draw all kinds of other bad insects, maggots, etc. you could always leave a ***** i mean cat in the boat. get one of those high tech self cleaning litter boxes. ratman

Re: What to use on the boat.
Seen a couple of those plastic trays with a sticky 'fly tape' bottom in them with mice stuck to it. Critters were like super glued to it and trying to pull themselves free. Looked like they were doing pushups, but with not much luck.
Kinda felt sorry for the little rodents. Maybe they have a super size tray? |

Re: What to use on the boat.
I don't have rats, I just want to make sure they don't move in. I'll put some moth-balls inn just in case. :drink: Happy Holidays to all OSO brothers and sisters. :drink: :drink:

Re: What to use on the boat.
So moth balls work?
I figure the smell would stay with the boat? |
Re: What to use on the boat.
We used to do this in Chicago. In the spring when you remove the moth balls the odor is gone after a few days.
Down here in SE Florida it works on the Palmetto bugs, roaches and gekkos. |
