Anyone have info on Mares 38 Cat??

Don't see them very often actually never seen ne in person. I was wondering if they have been around a while and what type of performance they are capable of? Also what is the price range of these cats? And how do they hold up and compare with say Awsome, and Eliminator.d

Thanks
WILL

That's funny!
I was just going to suggest to contact CB as he used to be involved with them and probably knew the "skinny".

My father is thinking of one for his next fishing boat.
How do they run in the rough?

my friend in cape coral has one

very well built.. originally built in Australia, the company builds large yachts
and has been in business a long time.

A guy bought the molds for the 38 a few years ago and my friend got the first
one made. I was in Stuart when they were delivered.

I think they are using a different company to do there molds now, nice guys
and a real well made boat but not cheap. Will handle very rough water.

Not at all like an Eliminator or any other high performance cats.
They did start to make a fishing boat, I think two years ago

I belive these were being built by a friend of mine, Peter Stolper, in Palm City, Florida for a while. They were being marketed out of Pompano or Dania. When Peter was building them they were tanks. The Mares yachts were always very interesting and beautiful boats, but I've heard mixed reviews of the performance boat. Other than that I don't know much . . .

They look really nice. The picks here show it to be OB powered but they do built I/O models.
They claim their performance model will do 100+ mph with Merc 525's.

i rode in a sterndrive model and it wasn't the fastest but it flattened some rough water... i think it ran 90's with 500 HP.... built like a tank with a lot of room...

I did the Key West Poker Run with Lenny (the guy in the boat pictured above), his girlfriend and my wife. It was really snotty once we were out on the ocean & I couldn't believe how well it ran. Very stable. I can remember several times when I absolutely thought the nose was going to go under the next wave (I even ducked). Lenny had a few good laughs. I couldn't believe how well that boat did!

You can see the High Performance model at the Super Center in Hollywood. The Outboard model will be in the Miami Show, they are outside the convention center, space 3784.

Went for a ride in one a few years back with the owner of the company. The boat had twin 500's and ran in the high 80's in fresh water. Nice big boat with plenty of room.

The original molds were made in New Zealand.

Mike:

Peter has sold the Stolper Sportfishing line and is pursuing new ventures to be announced shortly. He also completely refitting a 1959 Whiticar 40' custom sportfisherman for me from the bottom up, and helping me with a lot of redesign and engineering work on my 35' Cigarette Mistress. As I said in a previous post on OSO, Peter's a brilliant engineer, an insightful designer and a helluva a guy if you get to know him! And, for me, he's local!

If you guys want to talk about a terrific boat that combines all of the best attributes of a catamaran and a deep-vee, and I know I am starting to sound like Aronow, (but this is no Blue Thunder) Peter's SSPH, or split surface planing hull is the way to go. It's a 92% efficient hull with lift based on hydrodynamics rather than aerodynamics. A dry, comfortable, fast and economical ride! Available as either a 22', 35' or 45'. If anyone is interested, please contact me, as we might start building them again. The boats were twenty years ahead of their time when he was building them in the mid-eighties, check out the pictures below.

Re: Anyone have info on Mares 38 Cat??

I craswled arund a 38 at LOTO 4 years ago. As everyone said, they are a HUGE boat, very wide and deep. Ton's of room in the cockpit AND cabin.

I think Poerboat has as ad for new 38's w/525's for 249k ?? I don't have the mag with me, but I think that is right.

They look like a well built boat. Would be a great prformance Cruiser type boat but in a cat hull.
