I have a 2004 dodge hemi ,yes is has the power and torque, but rides like a lumber wagon ,rocks you back and forth when pulling in bumpy drive ways,,plus the hemi ?insurance is a killer and it sucks gas like you won"t belive, the resale is terrible and the interior is not as strong or good looking as the ford ,the ford is a little mushy when it comes to power ,I WOULD GO WITH A FORD FX4X4 ,LONG WHEEL BASE NICE RIDE AND will last a life time,my 2 cents go with a chevy or ford ,Good Luck.Darin

So I installed a 10K rated Draw tite. Thats where ALL the companies shortchange you. That 5K hitch is rated 10K with weight dist. bars. But for a boat you need weight Carrying capacity. If you check the rating on even the 2500 or 3500 trucks, you will probably see that the hitches they install are NOT rated as high as the truck is, UNLESS you are using bars. and unless you want to buy adapters for your boat trailer, the dist. bars only work on "V" shaped trailer tongues.
Weight distributing hitch works GREAT on my 12K rig pulled by a 2500 Avalanche on the factory hitch.
I first went with a WD Hitch as described in this thread:

http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/s...vy+hitch+balls

Now I have Putnam Class-V hitch on order, and I am 100% legal either way.

I'll buy a dually one day, but the Avalanche suits my needs perfectly for the time being.

Nice set up. If you go with electric or electric over hydraulic (my preference) you avoid any potential issues with the WD bars interfering with the surge brakes.

You should grab life by the horns and don't be found on road dead.

I've got Bendix Brake Industrial Ceramic Pads on Kodiak NC Discs on 4 wheels of the trailer AND Baer Cross-Drilled Rotors ( http://www.baer.com/ ) with Carbon Metallic Brakes on the Avalanche. It stops very well. If you got the deal on the AV that I did, you would stick with it too. OSO member 'bsag' hooked me up.

I'm looking at Dodge, would consider Silverado, but the looks of the Avalanche is, shall we say, not to my taste.

No issues with folks liking or not liking the AV. We've been over that, and I am NOT pushing them. Heck, even the Silverado looks ridiculous with the Avlanche front end. When I buy a dually it will be GMC or Ford.

"There is no such thing as too much truck" is my only point, and the reprecussions are not worth the risk of skimping anywhere.

Any problems with warping? also are the rotors slotted or just cross drilled? My brother needs to improve the stock brakes on his 02 AVA.
