Made an offer? Your Thoughts?

I made an offer yesterday on a boat. I got a call from the broker telling me that the offer might offend the seller. I think.........why would it offend the seller (he is asking $320,000). I offered $225,000. The last three boats of the same year and model sold for $235,000 in February 2004, $230,000 in April of 2004, and $250,000 in July of 2004.

Then the guy starts to argue that the BUC value is $330,000, yada, yada. I told the guy I could care less what BUC was, the last three boats sold in the area I am offering. Market value is market value regardless of what BUC says.

It is not a real big deal to me. If I get the boat great, if not great. But why would someone put a boat on the market for this much over what comparable boats sold for 6-9 months ago ? I think the listing broker is blowing something up someones third point of contact :D If someone buys it for this price, they are getting hosed

Any thoughts ?

Ya id tell him to mull it over and give ya a call.. IMHO thats not how ya deal.. If you want to sell the boat for more you make a counter offer ..This thing with people being insulted is BS .. Its better than no offer at all !

Book On my Nortech was 100K more than they were asking, The worst felling in the world is when you make an offer and they take the first one. I always start with about 2/3 of the asking price on boats.

Worst is you get a no.

The other thing is that if the boat was bought new the owner might be upside down on the deal with what he owes on it and can't afford selling it, literally.

Don't sweat it. The boat is only worth what someone will pay for it. I see boat's and car's for sale. There is a differnece between For Sale and Selling.

I bought a boat a month ago for 70% of the asking price....and it was listed lower than any other I could find.....buyers are in the drivers seat. Tell them you can't afford anymore and let them sweat it.
