Default stinger 222 1986

Thinking about buying a 1986 22 Stinger with a 250 Bridgeport outboard engine, would appreciate any info on what to look for.

Spend some money with an knowledgeable Mercury Outboard mechanic. I would recommend doing a test run, drive it see if u like it. If it is still the boat you want after the ride and your price is agreed upon then at that point by yourself some insurance and have a good MECHANIC not surveyor checking out. Spend the money with the mechanic after everything else checks out good. Take a yellow table and make a list of every item on the boat that needs attention lights, battery, polish, bilge pump ect. and ask the mechanic what he would charge to repair these items. You will spend a couple of hundred bucks for compression leak down, inspecting the fluid in the lower unit. It is money well spent and like I said cheap insurance.

Also,
Have the mechanic take a look at the fuel tank, check the stringers and take a look at the bottom for blistering if the boat was stored in the water.
Good Luck!

IS $2500.00 a good price for a 86 Stinger 222 with a 1990 Bridgeport 2.5 Outboard engine, compression was 140 all cylinders, fired right up (loud...)
the hull bottom is in good shape no blisters. the cockpit uphosterly has no tears, just slightly fade, has a new binimi top. a few minor gel coat cracks.

Hard to find an 86 without some blisters.

$2500 is a good price for anything that gets you on the water but isn't a total project.

You can't get an inflatable for that price. Just make sure no big surprises. Always gonna have little surprises.

I was at a dealer that sold the chris stingers back in the 80's.... I would not recomend the 222...the ride was not that great...the boat was a hand full,.... now the motor bridgeports are great motors for there time...but warm up your wallett for the repairs and parts

On the subject, saw a 1987 202 on ebay, no reserve. It has a 4.3 Alpha. Smaller boat, but you can pump it up a bit with some thru hulls, etc. Sort of a rare one to have an outboard on it.

E.S.

P.S. $2500 seems cheap for the 222, as it seems to have held its value more than a 202. Might want to take the advice to check it out with a surveyor.

If you want on the water.....................
and the boat and motor check out, (test drive and get a mechanics advise). Maybe get an OSOer in your area to take a look see for you.

That my friend is as cheap as it gets. For $2500 you are not
going to find anything nicer.

FORGET the 202, it is too small (inside and ride).
The 4.3 v-6 with thru hull exhaust has a real weak sound.

The 222 is a blast to drive and if get tired of it (or more cash) sell it. Bet money you won't lose anything. If the boat sank or burned to the ground at the end of the summer 2500 would be worth the summer of fun.
Of course at this point it will be to late for you
as you will have be afflicted with an addiction
called BOATFEVER or even worse,
the dreaded TWO-FOOT-ITIS (needing a larger and larger boat)

Option B
Sit on dry land,
boatless,
all summer
and watch boats from bank
while sitting on ice chest wondering which clubs you blew 200 bucks a month at over the last year. It's all relative. Get a boat get WET!
Once again Only my full 2 cents..............................Good Luck!

Thanks, I now own the Stinger 222, I guess I have it worst than the TWO-FOOT-ITIS. I am know a TWO BOAT OWNER.

This boat has some new toys, I am not familiar with, like Gill bracket and jack plate,
What does the jack plate do???
