I rarely post, but often read.

I am David Smyth, and I own a Fountain 32 Sportfish Cruiser, twin 454 magnums, bravos. Its a model year 2000. I maintain it with an open checkbook, which means I spend far, far less on my children's university education.

I use it almost exclusively to cruise the islands offshore of Southern California -- Catalina, Anacapa, Santa Cruz, Santa Rosa, and San Miguel are all typical destinations for a day or overnight.

Overnight trips probably 20 times per year, almost all with just me and the wife, Lisa. Day trips generally include 2 to 4 other people, usually friends, much less often the kids. Way to much fun to have youngsters around ;-)

This boat is the best I've found so far for what I do, but I am looking for something even better. Nothing on the market, nothing being built in production today, is better for what we do.

But what we WANT to do, we can't do with this boat. So I charter -- a Nordic Tug for Alaska this summer, for example. While I love chartering because its so cheap because its not my boat, I also hate chartering because its not my boat. ;-)

We like to do adventures. My wife and I have multiple times crossed the Pacific and Atlantic, cruised throughout the Med, Carribbean, Hawaii, and Pacific Coast of North and Central America: approaching 100,000 miles offshore in boats. That means there is one hell of a lot of the world we have not seen by boat, by OUR boat, and we intend to.

So the next boat will almost certainly be custom. I've been in discussions with a few custom builders and designers. Nomex core, pre-preg carbon, vacuum bagged and post cured at about 250 degrees F or 125 degrees C looks the most likely construction at this time. Power will probably be twin Verados. Stepped Deep V. Trailerable, probably even containerable.

I'm in Charleston, been boating for a while with my Kew West 1900cc. Friend of mine picked up a 23 Eliminator so he sold me his "project"...1987 22' pac. I am pretty good with saving turds but I think this may be the one I come out on top with. Hull is beautiful needs some polishing, new gauge panels and controls, and of course a complete outdrive. He still has the prop but thats it. Plenty of boat parts around here so I am optimistic about getting it done. Motors brand new never been fired. More to come...

Lurker , yes, boat owner yes. 1967 Chris Craft Super Sport, 327, three year restoration by myself, only thing original is the keel, stringers and some other wood. Otherwise everything was either rebuilt or bought new. Sorry the trailer is a POS, been too busy to rebuild it. Too bad the west coast doesn't have many races, but I'll watch the poker run in Sept.
Love the sound of horsepower.

Hi, i'm Steve, i'm from Vancouver B.C. i'm 18 and im a certified lurker, although a boat owner i am not, not yet anyway. Thanks to some friends i was exposed to the offshore world a few years ago and am now hooked. Currently when im not tied up with school work im on this site or ones similar too it. Thanks to my friends i've been able to get my hands dirty in the bilge, take part in some poker runs, and ride some serious machines, i even had the opportunity to meet Reggie Fountain. While i may only be a lurker, im a speed nut, and i hope to have a real reason to start posting one of these days,

Cheers.

EXTREMEMARINE.COM 10-17-2007 10:49 AM

Hi, i'm Gabe Martin with Extreme Marine in North Carolina. We are the East Coast Distributor for Dave's Custom Boats. I do a lot of lurking on here and a small amount of posting. I guess i'm like most others. I lurk to learn as much as i can. I am 24 and have been involved in boating all my life. At 19 I started a boat dealership selling Maxum boats and JC pontoons. I was in college and my business partner and father were supposed to be running the business. We all know how that goes!!! My partner was in it to collect a check and my father had some health problems. Needless to say it tanked and cost me $1.4Million. Lesson one, never open a boat dealership!!!!! I then went to work for Extreme and we were selling pontoons, fishing boats, sport boats, fountain, and DCB. TOO MANY boat lines. We down sized to only DCB and now I am the only employee. I do anything that needs to get done. Shows, Poker Runs, Demos, Deliveries, You name it.

Throwing a lot out, but letting everyone know me.

I am one of those non posters lol and should say hello to all. My name Eric, I have been boating since I was 12 in the 1000 Islands. I am now in my 30’s and still boating up there and love the fact that my son at 16 months old is able to enjoy the same thing. I currently am in a Cruiser 3370 (yes cruiser) we spend almost every weekend up in the 1000 Islands at our home and boating all over. My wife and I love having a cruiser cause of the room but in the next few years we plan on getting into go fast to be able to do poker runs with our son and as a family fun thing. The knowledge I have gained on here is priceless and love reading the various topics that come up.

Logically one would take the used chopper to the Robinson factory and have them go over it with a fine toothed comb before strapping yourself in. Any thoughts on that?

162 is a rotorway kit,nothing like a Robinson,also a descent used Robinson R22 is 150-200used! The Helicopters are required overhaul at 2,200hrs.
