Other option for sales tax on used boats, even with a $50K bill of sale;
Title it in a state that doesn't charge sales tax on used boats, ie, IL. Then transfer title to your state. You'll only have to pay an extra tilte fee.

Maybe in some states, but not in Washington. Been there done that. Still had to pay state sales tax. I had to cough up about $6,000. they wanted more than that. But I was able to lower the value on paper.

How can you title it in a state that doesn't charge sales tax on used boats if you don't have residence in that state?

Having a second residence there, or....... um, a little creativity and a friend or two that live there helps.
