Here is a picture of the shop when I was building it. It has been a dream come true. I am no longer handicapped by dealers if I need to pull a motor. I have my own overhead crane and I do it myself. This has been the best investment yet. My wife loves it.....she always knows where I am.....in the shop!

Re: Cool Tools
thunderusone, what size hoist did you get for your crane and what make. I am looking for one for my shop.
thanks |
Re: Cool Tools
I just used a 1 ton chain hoist. It is manual. I like it because when I set engine alignment, I can move it a 1/16th if I need too. I have had an electric and they are hard to work with because you can't move it just a little bit.....at least you could not with the one I had. I have a cherry picker for moving motors around the shop floor. If I used the overhead every day I would want an electric. The exercise is good for me and I can tell what kind of load I am putting on my beams. If you put a big electric up and something gets hung you can pull the roof down unless you build a REALLY HEAVY DUTY self contained frame for the hoist. I designed mine to pick up a fully dressed blower motor.
